If you make a bad trade or draft, sure it can be as costly. Besides, how costly do you think missing a playoff opportunity to this franchise is?

How about instead of me refuting your assertion that a bad trade or draft can cost 4/50, how about you prove to me that Jimenez=playoffs.

Oh you're using the 3 WAR as a defense for him -- I thought you were being sarcastic.

I actually think you have a legitimate argument here, and have stated so. The problem isn't Paulino, it's that if you're going to take that kind of gamble, you need more depth so you aren't screwed when it goes wrong. They should have, at least, made it a priority to sign three Paulino-like guys.

What I don't agree with is Ubaldo being the answer. It looked risky and costly at the time, and now it looks even worse with his early season performance.

If it was so easy, every team would have 5th starter A, B, C and D ready to go for the inevitable injuries, and yet every year most teams will dip into their 6th and 7th starters and those guys will be replacement level. Pitching is scarce and the Sox do as good a job as anyone of finding it, especially given their budget constraints. This isn't a team that can spend on starting pitching in the FA market so they have to do things like scrape the waiver wire.

Given that this was always going to be a throwaway season record wise it simply made no sense to spend any many on the pitching above league min.

You're operating on a bad premise that 4/$50M is a contract the Sox couldn't work around if it went bad.

The premise is all yours, Jimenez is your prize, not mine. But this is how all conversations with you go.

As hawk would say, you are big hat, no cattle. I got things to do tonite, you can now go back to deflecting and ignoring.

This is a very poor answer to the question "please prove that Jiminez = playoffs". It's roughly comparable in quality to the answer "apple", or "horses are pretty too". They answer the question equally well.

You're operating on a bad premise that money is unlimited. The fact that 4/50 will not, by itself, cripple the Sox financially does not change the fact that it still represents $50m of a finite total payroll that will not go somewhere else.

Is anybody getting banned? I think when I last got suspended it was for something I did in SLAM, which I thought was a free for all. I'm pretty sure I got the boot for a thread that got my emotions boiling.

Noesi didnt. Now Danks doesn't. Love him or hate him, Jimenez would have been the 3rd best starter on this team.

With the White Sox Noesi absolutely does. And that even undersells how he's been for us since he gave up some runs due to not being stretched out.

With the White Sox, but you cannot dismiss the rest of his work. Most of his runs were given up in early innings. It had nothing to do with not being stretched out. Jimenez gave up some runs late during his first few starts. Should those not count?

We will see where everything settles at the end of the season.

At the very least I can dismiss the work he did with Texas, and IMO it's almost as silly when comparing the two to count runs he gave up in those first couple starts when he hit the 4th and 5th innings and kept pitching to stretch his arm out.

Why don't we make a wager. The loser has to say in his signature the other is the best poster on this site. I will say Jimenez's ERA at the end of the season will be lower than Noesi's, and we will only count Noesi's White Sox numbers.

You make it salary/WAR, and you have a deal, since that's the entire point of anybody's argument anyway.

You know what, even that's a silly agreement, since if Noesi bombs, the Sox can just DFA him, whereas if Jimenez bombs, the Orioles are stuck.

Nope, you know what, forget you and Jimenez. I can't believe you're still this hung up on him.
