maggsmaggs
QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2014 -> 06:12 PM) Things getting worse for E. Johnson http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?s...mp;ymd=20140527 Yikes. You hope he is mentally strong enough. Some players can just be lost forever after initial ML struggles. Hopefully, he overcomes it. On the plus side, Montas continues to impress. So far, 3 innings, 3 hits, 1 run, 0 walks and 4 Ks. flavum
Something has to be wrong with Johnson. Hawkins- single and walk.
kevo880
QUOTE (flavum @ May 27, 2014 -> 06:05 PM) Something has to be wrong with Johnson. Hawkins- single and walk. I'm guessing Johnson's not in any pain otherwise I hope they would have run some tests. Are there many arm injuries where the person doesn't feel much, if any pain, but their performance is obviously affected?
fathom
0-4, 2 strikeouts for Davidson...ugh. I wonder if any other top 100 prospect heading into the season is having a worse year? Baez was, but he's gone on a ridiculous run the last two weeks. Edited May 28, 2014 by fathom

fathom
QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 28, 2014 -> 01:12 AM) Let's hope our first round pick hits the majors before our minors can get to them. It won't be an offensive player, so I have a lot more confidence in how the Sox will develop the pitcher.

Things like thoracic outlet syndrome where the nerve or arteries are compressed causing loss of feeling or strength. There is no pain involved in this syndrome. Thanks for the reply on that. Seems like that could be something to consider right? Is that something am MRI would capture?

Is that something am MRI would capture? An MRI wouldn't really do it. A nerve conduction velocity or doppler can. It's mostly diagnosed with physical tests. Bruce_Blixton
Ravelo tried to steal home, loving this kid even more. I think I'll have to start calling him "juevos" or "cojones." (Pronounced coh-jones of course)

Jake
FWIW, when I dealt with a SLAP tear and RC fraying I rarely felt "pain" in such a way that you would think you injured something. Velocity lowered, shoulder stiffened, constantly felt like I needed more warm-up/more rest. Like dead arm that never goes away

maggsmaggs
QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2014 -> 11:32 PM) Very impressive pitching day for the system ( I don't consider Johnson a prospect right now) Fathom, that's even pessimistic for you. It's certainly disconcerting about EJ, but his track record is way too impressive to write him off completely. Complete disappointment is fair, but his track record of excellence still way overshadows his track record for s***.

Balta1701
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 27, 2014 -> 10:18 PM) Hopefully a breakout start for Chris Beck. 7.0 IP, 4H, 0R, 0BB, 6K. harfman77
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2014 -> 07:59 AM) "Chris, we want you to work on your fastball control and durability for the first part of the season. We'll let you open things up after Memorial Day". Maybe? It seems like his slider was the big thing that knocked him down in the draft. He went from being projected as a top 10 pick to falling to the Sox in the second allegedly because his slider was not the out pitch that it was in the Cape Cod League the previous summer. So, has he abandoned that pitch now? To me, it seemed if he could get that pitch back up to an acceptable level he would be really successful but from your account, it seems he is working on a cutter along with his fastball and not working the slider in. If thats true, it makes a lot of sense why his K numbers are so pedestrian.
