greg775
I used to get a delicious medium cup of hot coffee with cream and sugar every day across the street from work. I also had several diet cokes a day or Coke Zero's. I decided to stop drinking both products about 5 weeks ago and haven't had a coffee or soft drink in 5 weeks. I am starting to miss the coffee. My question to you is ... a.) Now that I've given it up, should I continue to not drink coffee? I'm over the Coke thing. I drink juice and iced tea and water. b.) Is coffee with cream and a good mixture of sugar fattening? c.) Is coffee evil or not? Thank you for your answers!
Y2HH
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 28, 2014 -> 10:10 PM) I used to get a delicious medium cup of hot coffee with cream and sugar every day across the street from work. I drink coffee every day, but I try to limit it to 1-2 small or medium sized cups. I also use half & half and sugar (only 1 sugar). Yes, I use real cream in my coffee, I do not like skim milk or milk in it, and never have. I'd cut down on the number of diet drinks, simply because of the chemical compounds in them, I don't trust things I cannot pronounce. But with anything, try to limit your intake, just because something says 0 calories doesn't mean it's something you should be filling your body with on a daily basis. Drink water. It also has zero calories, and your body actually wants it. Juice is terrible for you, it's high sugar/high calorie and the vitamins it provides aren't important unless you have some sort of vitamin deficiency. If you love juice, just eat fruit. Eating fruit will trigger your brain to tell you that you're "full", while drinking juice will not, and you'll just want to drink more, or you'll drink too much (keep in mind, it's high in sugar/calories, and it's easy to drink a lot of considering how small a serving size actually is). Even the iced tea is better than the juice. No, coffee is not evil, it's good for you in moderation.
RockRaines
Coffee has several health benefits but only in moderation. Drink that with little to no sugar, unsweetened iced or green tea and water and you're good. I like unsweetened vanilla almond milk in my coffee. Try that. It's definitely annoying but we've all benefitted from it. Now I can get a good cup of coffee in somewhat remote places and its great. Also the invention of things like the Keurig were spawned which are game changers. The last bar I really worked at was in 2003-2004 timeframe or so, we have roughly 6 beers on tap and a few more bottles and that was completely fine with everyone. It was a super popular spot and nobody even asked for local beers. Today that would probably put you out of business. I LOVE that.
Texsox
I'm lucky enough to wander around the country each summer and sampling local food. drink, and literature is my favorite. Ten years ago asking for a local beer would result in blank looks, now most clerks and bar tenders will know of several and can discuss the differences. And I drink one cup of coffee, with 1% milk and no sugar every day.

That's a good point, I do enjoy trying craft beers. Just if I'd prefer a Coors Light instead of sampling your new double triple Porter IPA, don't look at me like I'm a rube. Sometimes a cold watered down beer hits the spot.
bmags
I drink coffee everyday. I try to drink a lot of water as well just to help prevent kidney stones. I am fairly convinced that nobody will find much to worry about with coffee.

Even I sold out and got a Keurig, and use that now because of how easy it is, but I'll openly admit the coffee it makes is sub-par in comparison to what I consider real coffee (french press/non paper filtered). HOWEVER, it's more than good enough considering the factors surrounding making/cleaning up "real" coffee. And while I agree we benefited from the snobbish nature of craft brew people and coffee people, that doesn't make them less annoying. So it seems my one medium cup of hot coffee with one sweet n low and one dip of cream is not that fattening. I'm shocked about the juice thing. Guess I'll stop drinking orange juice now. I'm kind of pissed. I'm 6-foot-2 and shockingly now 240 after gaining 20 pounds the past year somehow. I haven't had a beer in 6 weeks; gave up all soft drinks, gave up coffee. Haven't had a potato chip or pretzel in 6 weeks aside from a small bag of baked chips if I go to Subway or somewhere (before that I was buying Lays chips late at night and sometimes gobbling almost the whole bag). I'm Eating just one full meal a day. Breakfast is a banana and juice (I'll stop the juice), lunch is an apple and I'm not losing the weight. I was walking/light jogging for a month straight, 3-4 miles a day is all, and sensed I was doing pretty well. Then, as has been my wont, I broke a bone in my foot (only a brace from my orthopod not a cast) 4 weeks ago and haven't been able to walk/run. I don't know what's going on, but the weight isn't coming off and now I want the coffee back. Edited May 30, 2014 by greg775

I would make it 6 meals a day if you are eating that small of portions.
