Buehrle>Wood
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 07:33 AM) I feel awful for the Ivorians. They get the group of death in 2006, then get placed with Portugal and Brazil in 2010 and now in 2014 they are knocked out of advancing due to a bulls*** penalty call in the final seconds. Terrible. And now everyone has to be subjected to watching the Greeks horrible style of football for another game as well It was the right call. The defender took out the opponents leg when he was taking a shot in the box. Im still not sure what the f*** the defender was thinking there. But yeah so pissed Greece is going through. Can't stand them.

Whether intentional or not, he tripped a guy in the box and that's a penalty. Also, Costa Rica won a group containing Uruguay, Italy and England. The US may win a group containing Germany, Portugal and Ghana. Yes, Columbia looks awesome right now but Ivory Coast had a group with Greece and Japan and couldn't get out. Taking off work, though I literally have no friends down here who care enough about the game to also take off work so I may end up at a bar by myself. LittleHurt05
Here's a different angle from the Greece/Ivory Coast penalty, seems like a pretty good call to me https://vine.co/v/Mtnxa6HXg7p
Buehrle>Wood
Gifs of the Ivory Coast penalty and Italy Red. I love complaining about FIFA refs but these were definitely the right calls.

caulfield12
Don't see a problem with either call. As for Liverpool and Uruguay, they've got a real mess on their hands.
RockRaines
That was a yellow, not a red card to me.

These were definitely the right calls, although the more I see the Italy foul it looks less and less expulsion worthy, I realize he was given the red card more his intentions than the actual hit but it makes the ref and overall fifa look bad that he gave the play a red and nothing came of the Suarez debacle later in the game. RockRaines
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 09:47 AM) Tackling cleats up is always red. Eh, that was debatable. The dive was not necessary either and I would have gone to the yellow because of it. Shielding the ball and glancing the bottom of your cleats off of a shinguard is a weak Red IMO. Clearly, none of the refs saw it...you almost think with his reputation now, they'll have a camera soon that focuses JUST on him for the entirety of the game, and then report something to the officials down on the field that might have been missed (like in the crowd/scrum on a corner kick), somewhat like the baseball replay system. chw42
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 08:20 AM) Fair play? LOL. Was it fair play when Graham Zusi took over 60 seconds to cross the pitch for a late substitution? Is it fair play when goalies approach goal kicks like crippled old men to kill time? In the heat of the moment, Suarez made a smart play to up his team's survival chances from 0% to about 10-15%. I would hope every American player would have the instinct to do the same should such situation arise. They added a whole minute of stoppage time because of that, so meh. Why can't they have a booth ref? The games get held up significantly by a dozen players surrounding the officials and arguing anyway, so there's no harm in a guy looking at replays for a minute or two to make an informed call about the foul. This sums it up, FIFA has so much money yet only brought on goal line tech this WC, which i don't believe has even been used.......yet? I think it's been used once this World Cup. I get the feeling that the guys who run FIFA are even more conservative than the guys who run MLB. It took how long for MLB to get replay? It'll probably take longer for soccer.

You can't just look at it that way. You're basically assuming there would have been 3 minutes of stoppage time play as opposed to 4 minutes. That doesn't work.
