justBLAZE
CHICAGO – Following today’s game vs. San Diego, the Chicago White Sox optioned infielder Marcus Semien to Class AAA Charlotte. Semien, 23, is hitting .218 (36-165) with seven doubles, one triple, three home runs, 18 RBI and 22 runs scored in 43 games this season. He has appeared in 24 games (23 starts) at third base, 17 (16) at second and one at shortstop. All three of Semien’s home runs this season have given the White Sox the lead in the seventh inning or later. The White Sox will make a corresponding roster move prior to tomorrow night’s series opener at Los Angeles-NL. EDIT: someone please fix the title. Dunt
Real crowded infield at Charlotte right now...
GGajewski18
Hopefully a trade is looming but this needed to be done. He needs consistent at bats. Infield at Charlotte is Davidson, M. Johnson, Saladino, Sanchez, Semien.
flavum
Good. Get him at bats down there. I was really thinking he was going to stay.
Balta1701
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 04:37 PM) Hopefully a trade is looming but this needed to be done. He needs consistent at bats. Micah is back in a week or so though and they all need to be playing daily

When Micah comes back what do you do. Saladino will definitely be the super UTIL player and now play LF. Maybe move Micah to CF?
The Ultimate Champion
Well, the PA are great. Can't help but think a trade is coming though, and probably 2 guys, either 2 MiLB players, 2 MLB players, or one of each between Gordon, Alexei, Leury, Semien, Micah, Sanchez, and Saladino. Soxfest
He needs to play everyday and cut down the K rate.
BigHurt3515
I wouldn't be surprised to see him start playing the OF more. Hopefully he dominates down there and not have a downfall after being sent down
caulfield12
Unless the organization believes BOTH Semien and Sanchez are slated to be utility players in the Keppinger/McEwing/Oquendo/Grebeck mode long-term, they need to pick the best one (in their belief) and stick him at SS everyday. Saladino's no longer a prospect for everyday MLB time, so he will be the first one (and has been) to be moved all over the field. And Sanchez/Micah Johnson both can't play 2B at the same time, either. Edited June 1, 2014 by caulfield12

It really does seem like a trade could be coming relatively soon.
oldsox
I thought either Leury or Sierra would have been sent down or DFA'd. Or De Aza, preferably.
Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 08:02 PM) I thought either Leury or Sierra would have been sent down or DFA'd. Or De Aza, preferably. Semien needs regular at-bats, it's as simple as that. As for De Aza, might as well give him another month and see if he can catch fire for a few weeks. It's not like he's blocking anyone and maybe we can salvage something of value for him. Either way, he won't be on this team next year that's for sure. BlackSox13
Semien was sent down to make room for activating Abreu tomorrow. Still have no clue what Charlotte will do with all the infielders.
greg775
Semien certainly doesn't appear to be anything special, which is sad. He seems to have a clue in how to play the game, just doesn't hit enough. Maybe he'll emerge.

oldsox
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 10:38 PM) Semien was sent down to make room for activating Abreu tomorrow. Still have no clue what Charlotte will do with all the infielders. Actually, the Charlotte roster is now at 25 includung Semein. Micah due to come back soon will make 26. They have another infielder named Michael Johnson who isn't playing much and is probably expendable.
