Buehrle>Wood
They did a follow up article where just two of the writers make 30 more picks. Sale went 47th. Yeah.

cabiness42
Taking a catcher = bad Taking a 31 year old catcher = incompetent This is just to stoke discussion. If Buster Olney were actually making the 28th pick, there's no chance he takes Molina.
chw42
Bryce Harper at #2...? Seriously? Harper's triple slash .273/.353/.476. Good, but not anywhere near #2 in baseball good. He's got a lot of potential, but he's been a MLer for 3 years now and his numbers haven't been that impressive.
Balta1701
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 03:05 PM) The first year Harper stays healthy for a full season he'll be a top 2-3 player in the game. I could buy that, but if you're going to hold "injury risk" against a pitcher like Chris Sale you've got to do the same thing with a guy with Harper's record. Eminor3rd
Preferring position players greatly over pitchers, sure. Preferring Michael Wacha over Chris Sale... wat

ChiliIrishHammock24
Tanaka at #6!?!!? LMAO. Wacha and Teheran above Sale? What a f***ing joke.
Balta1701
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 03:30 PM) Except Carlos Quentin isn't one of the most naturally talented players in the game. The guy had a career 125+ OPS over 1100+ PAs with majority of these PAs coming as a 19 and 20 year old. Are you forgetting the fact that he should be playing in the mid levels of the minor leagues? All he's done is show he can hold his own at each and every part of the game. Fielding, running, base-running, hitting for power, approach, hitting for average, etc. Harper wasn't the same for a while after running into a brick wall and yet, his stats still look the way they do. And Chris Sale is also one of the most naturally talented players in the game. He has a career ERA+ of 149 and did that work before the age of 25. The problem isn't that your arguments regarding Harper are wrong, it's that they apply to Sale too.
Rowand44
Because Sale is going to break and he's bad at baseball.
ChiliIrishHammock24
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 04:55 PM) Because Sale is going to break and he's bad at baseball. They just discussed Sale's crazy start to this season on IT. Chris Rose said "Yeah, I love watching the guy pitch, but I feel like he is going to break in half at any moment." That about sums up the media's continued disrespect towards Chris Sale. He's good, but he's about to explode, so....meh.

GGajewski18
That little segment on MLB Network on Abreu was nice. He somewhat sykped with his family and how family means so much to him. It was great to see.
chitownsportsfan
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 2, 2014 -> 06:14 PM) Jose Fernández got picked and he is currently broken. Yea that's brutal. It's ESPN and their motley crew of old and new school analysts so whatever, but that is just brutal. The critique of Sale pretty much boils down to "he could explode", ignoring the fact that the guy just put together a very healthy two seasons, averaging over 190ip, and so far -- knock on wood -- this year it looks like he'll go over the 160 mark again. Chris Sale is chronically under hyped. It's pretty bad. Not even on Baseball Think Factory does he even garner much attention. He's basically been the best pitcher in the AL by fWAR over the last 3 years and he gets talked about 1/2 of guys like Verlander, Scherzer, Darvish, etc.
Jake
Yeah, that's a big joke. You can have Andrelton Simmons, I'll have Abreu. I'll also have Sale. I'd probably take Quintana over several guys on that list.
