I was hoping Austin would have signed for less than he did. I am not sure we can assume Jarvis will sign for slot. Ziznewski made a (perhaps) silly mistake by saying he thought he was going to be drafted on day three. Either way, he'll be way underslot. Obviously this is all being appropriated for both/either Rodon and/or Montas de Oca. Stealing Montas de Oca ceiling would really be the cherry on top of a great draft at face value. I am sure the Sox are really selling themselves to this kid's advisors. What's a better a organization for this kid's history?

I am just surprised the Sox didn't take more seniors in the latter half of the first round. That's a strategy we employed last year and it netted us Michalczewski and this year there was a serious run of seniors in the 7-10 rounds. Hopefully that means the Sox really like that players they nabbed at the end of day two.

I don't think we can assume Jarvis signed right at slot but with how quickly he signed it seems highly unlikely it was for much above slot.

U.S. Olympic short track speed skater Eddy Alvarez is set to start a professional baseball career.

The Olympic silver medalist signed minor-league contract papers with the Chicago White Sox in an Instagram video posted Tuesday.

Alvarez, 24, was an all-conference shortstop at Salt Lake Community College in 2011 before shifting focus to skating, where he and his U.S. teammates won 5000m relay silver in Sochi.

He predicted the switch back to baseball before the Sochi Olympics.

“I plan to go back to baseball after this,” he told MLB.com. “That’s the thing. I’ve never, ever been able to choose between baseball and skating, which is why I still juggle the two sports in my life. This was one of my goals — always to be an Olympic skater — and the other one is to be a professional baseball player.”

The White Sox said the signing is not official yet, but when it is he will likely head to Arizona for workouts before being assigned to a minor-league club.

Alvarez is not the first Olympian to switch sports and sign with the White Sox. A basketball player named Michael Jordan did the same in 1994.

Reid-Foley was the guy I wanted when we were on the clock. It'll be interesting to watch them develop because at the least, the Sox had to have considered Reid-Foley as he was the consensus BPA at the time. Totally different prospects though, maybe the Sox were shooting for ceiling with Adams or maybe they just stuck to their affinity for big athletic righties. In Reid-Foley's case, the ceiling isn't as high but their is serious praise for his control and breaking ball.

There was major sign ability issues with Reid-Foley though. At least that's what Mayo and Callis said when he got drafted.

Considering he signed at slot even though he fell out of the first round that wasn't true.

I wonder, do you think that a phone call was not made to players before they were drafted. I mean in

the first and second with the comp pick.

Sean Reid-Foley signed for slot at 49. I had thought part of the reason we went for Adams over Reid-Foley was that Reid-Foley was looking for overslot, but no. Reid-Foley was ranked higher across the board, some places significantly, others just a few places.

49?

Some of the beat writers are reporting 28 picks have signed. Obviously Rodon and Montes Oca are not among them.

White Sox announce they've agreed to terms with 28 draft picks, including nine of their top 10 selections. Not No.3 overall Carlos Rodon.

The @WhiteSox announced several signings...3rd-rder Jace Fry gets $760k (value at 77 = $726k). Ore St LHP, strikes w/3 pitches. @MLBDraft

I'm really surprised we went over slot with Fry (even though it wasn't by much).

Me too, that's kind of funny considering when Fry was selected we thought it was sign of us getting cheaper talent.

Updated

1 (3): Carlos Rodon, LHP, /$5,721,500

2 (44): Spencer Adams, $1,282,700/$1,282,700

3 (77): Jace Fry, /$726,000

4 (108): Brett Austin, $450,000/$485,400

5 (138): Zach Thompson, $363,400/$363,400

6 (168): Louie Lechich, $40,000/$272,100

7 (198): Jake Peter, $203,800/$203,800

8 (228): John Ziznewski, /$162,100*

9 (258): Brian Clark, /$151,400

10 (288): Jake Jarvis, $141,300?/$141,300 - Assuming that this is full slot since this is a HS player

14 (408): Bryce Montes de Oca, /$100,000

So they basically signed 2-5 at slot value given Fry and Austin combining to equal their 3-4 slots now. I find it hard to imagine a situation where the Sox sign Montes de Oca. As for Rodon, it would seem he will be getting in the 6 million range if he signs.

Thank you, I see we have others bolded that aren't on that list like Fish and Sprague. They said they were both signing right?

Just added a couple more. Up to 24.

Yeah, according to Twitter.
