The Ultimate Champion
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 05:39 PM) I've posted it a few times, but THIS is the article that makes me want Kolek over Nola: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=23731 He's a giant. And he's all loaded up with awesome. IF he develops, a Sale-Kolek-Quintana top 3 is mighty fierce.
Soxfest
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 05:45 PM) John Manuel @johnmanuelba 39s Hearing more Aaron Nola than Tyler Kolek at 3 to CWS at this time, change from previous mocks #mlbdraft from Secaucus, NJ Expand Hope that is wrong. bmags
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 10:46 PM) He's a giant. And he's all loaded up with awesome. IF he develops, a Sale-Kolek-Quintana top 3 is mighty fierce. Kolek won't be ready for 3-4 years. We have no idea what our rotation looks like then. oldsox
I don't totally understand this Competitive Balance section of the draft. If the White Sox flounder this year, what are the chances of getting this pick next year?
The Ultimate Champion
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 05:48 PM) Kolek won't be ready for 3-4 years. We have no idea what our rotation looks like then. Kolek will take only as long as is necessary to develop the breaking ball and change. How long will that be, no one knows, something posted earlier about seemingly having little to no coaching - well, give him the coaching and see what happens. BigHurt3515
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 05:48 PM) Kolek won't be ready for 3-4 years. We have no idea what our rotation looks like then. Yeah, I have a feeling we want to draft a guy who can start within the next 2 years

I just saw the MLB report on Kolek. He is a work out machine, great family, work ethic, etc. I hope we get him.
Melissa1334
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 05:49 PM) I don't totally understand this Competitive Balance section of the draft. If the White Sox flounder this year, what are the chances of getting this pick next year? Isn't that only for small market teams? Not based on team performance? Soxfest
Everytime I hear someone say Nola In my head all I hear is the Kinks song Lola.
chitownsportsfan
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 06:48 PM) Kolek won't be ready for 3-4 years. We have no idea what our rotation looks like then. Well Q and Sale are both locked up for the next 5+ years, so barring massive, career threatening injuries, both should be there and still in their prime. The Ultimate Champion
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 05:49 PM) I don't totally understand this Competitive Balance section of the draft. If the White Sox flounder this year, what are the chances of getting this pick next year? I think our chances are pretty much limited to whether or not we trade for someone else's pick. I think market size and stuff are the main factors, and Detroit got one because of that. Then there's a draft of the cry poor teams where a certain number of them within the pool get picks. DirtySox
QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 05:51 PM) Isn't that only for small market teams? Not based on team performance? Theoretically yes. But Detroit received one last year for some reason.
ChiliIrishHammock24
I still can't believe that a kid named NOLA goes to LSU. That's just silly.

Taking him at 3 is not going to make me happy. I get the reasoning but I dont think his potential is as great as the big 3.

QuickJones81
You know if the Sox take Nola that the Cubs will take Kolek. If he ends up being an ace it will be awfully tough watching him pitch on the North side.
Baron
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 5, 2014 -> 06:00 PM) He is a reach at 3 to me. I do not want him at 3. I'll throw out my full opinion on him now. I dont think he is going to be an effective starter. I believe he'll end up in the pen when its all said and done. I dont think his secondary pitches will ever get to the point where he can consistently get batters out.
