Sat 8 rows behind the Flames' bench. I don't think I've ever been that close before, it was actually kind of weird being so close to the players and being able to hear them talk to each other.

Hawks outplayed the Flames in every way out there, and Hiller just completely stole that win. f***ing Carcillo missing on two goals, that first one was a damn tip-in. From what I noticed, it looked like Toews had a real bad game. Ben Smith is just all over the ice out there, the kid has crazy energy.

That was frustrating, though that overtime was super sloppy defensively.

Carcillo missed 2, but Kane also missed 1 that I was shocked he missed. He's been so automatic on those falling top shelf one timers.

They could have scored 6 goals last night without much luck. It was just one of those nights.

a question about the NHL salary cap.

if a player does not have a NTC, no one pick him up on waivers and has

more yrs on his contract, can the team bury him and his salary in the minors?

I am in the opinion that is what they should do with Bryan Bickell and his

rat lazy arse. 4 mil a yr and he plays like shiiite.

I'm not sure, but isn't that what they did with Huet? It's a cardinal rule to not pay for playoff performance, but that's what they did with Bickell.

I believe if it's like a million/year or over or thereabout, it still counts against the cap even if he's playing in the AHL. There's no loophole to use like that, there used to be though.

New 3rd line for a day or two is Bickell-Richards-Saad, with Versteeg replacing Saad on 2. Second line is pretttttay small, so if this doesn't turn up Bickells/Richards production I'd prefer it switch quickly.

How has everyone liked van Riemsdyk?

He's been pretty good. Wouldn't be surprised if he's in the top 4 next year and replaces Oduya.

I think next year the D pairing will look something like this:

Keith-Seabrook

Hammer-TVR

Vet FA-Johns

Rundblad

Remember, the Hawks "don't number lines"

Versteeg up, awful. Bring back Zues and go Kane-Zues-Versteeg.

Hahahaha

Back from vacation and this post pleased me.

The Hawks are certainly trying their best to ensure they get the least amount of productivity out of Brad Richards as possible.

I like how confident he is that he will not make a mistake (we'll see in bigger games), but Leddy just seemed so unsure that he could make any outlet passes in the playoffs. He seems fairly conservative but is nailing all the small things that would seem to gain Q's trust in him. Big win for Hawks if he truly hits as a potential 2nd line and clendening/johns don't slip.

the saving will be well worth burying him in the minors. I hated it

when Bowman gave him that contract. I guess without daddy looking

over his shoulder this one time hurt.

I think the reality is that it was probably about keeping Q happy. There two eras for Bowman, he worked masterfully when in intense cap restrictions. But that wears you down and probably wore the team down. The second era of success (cup) they were in much better shape. They should have remained disciplined, but Q has a say too, and I'm guessing there was an organizational push to reward the players who contributed (falsely, this time). It's tough to have so much turnover.

We know that Q likes to rest his players. For him to do that, he needs players he trusts will put in the work without him dogging them. This likely played a factor.

It doesn't mean it's not a mistake, but these are hard decisions, even if it's obvious from a production standpoint.
