Teams eye LeBron, Melo pairing

sources told ESPN.com on Tuesday that the Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks are among the teams mulling potential trades designed to clear enough cap space to be able to recruit the two stars and close friends.

The Los Angeles Lakers, meanwhile, had begun exploring such machinations even before the opt outs of James and Anthony had become known, according to ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne.

The Lakers have been trying in recent days to package the No. 7 overall pick in Thursday's draft with the expiring contract of Steve Nash (who's owed $9.7 million next season) to free up enough room to offer James and Anthony at least $16 million each next season to join forces with Kobe Bryant, Shelburne reported.

Would it be unwise to see if you could add extra assets from these teams looking to potential unload picks on hail mary attempts. Those assets could then be used to leverage Love +.

It all depends on what it does to your own cap room.

Simmons tweeted that a team of Rose-Afflalo-Melo-Gibson-Noah-Butler is possible.

That'd be fun.

@BillSimmons

NBA peeps are worried about the Bulls right now. A starting 5 of Rose, Afflalo, Carmelo, Taj + Noah w/ Butler as 6th man is VERY doable.

@BillSimmons

FYI - Bulls could trade Boozer's expiring + 16 + 19 to Orlando for Afflalo and 2 waivable deals. Then use Mirotic to dump Snell/Dunleavy.

If Chad Ford is right that Mirotic would be one of the 5 first picks in this draft, would you really trade him just to clear salary space?

No; I think I had a question on that post but I find it hard to believe you'd have to give up someone like Nik to trade MJD (who is on a very fair contract) or Snell. Are you telling me there is no team in the league that would want any of those guys in a salary dump? I call BS.

I've been thinking the same thing, plus if the Bulls trade Boozer as an expiring contract couldn't they amnesty one of those guys anyways (if it really came down to it)?

Boozer and Noah are the only amnesty-eligible players as they were the only contracts signed before the most recent CBA

Ah, didn't know that contingency, thanks.

when did he say that?

Andy (Lake Forest)

Better prospect-Saric or Mirotic?

Chad Ford

(1:57 PM)

Tough one. Have to say Mirotic right now. But Saric is right there. Mirotic would be a Top 6 pick in this draft. He have Saric at No. 8 on our Big Board.

How is he viewed as a talent evaluator?

I'd say at least 50%

Sadly, history would have it even much higher than that. But, I'm going with 0%. I'm feeling pretty confident that we're getting at least one of 'em.

I'd be a little shocked if they didn't, but I can't say 0% just because the Magic and Wolves don't HAVE to trade Arron or Love, Melo sounds like he wants to stay in NY, and I don't think it would shock anyone if Lebron and Bosh stay with the Heat..... They can't force these things to happen.....

I'd say 15%
