QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 9, 2014 -> 04:10 PM)
Which is not what they did. They outlined multiple options to Melo, some which involved moving Taj / others, but Bulls can do things and get max. I think this all comes down to what Lebron does. If Lebron goes long term, it should bode very well for Bulls. If he signs a contract with a 1 year out, Melo is staying in NY and the Knicks and Melo will try to sign Lebron in a year. If it is long term and Love ends up in Cleveland, all of a sudden there aren't many stars out there for Melo to play with, and it means he ends up coming to Chicago. Bosh ends up in Houston.

You have no idea what the bulls did, but we know that right now the bulls have zero cap space, so could not send Melo away with an offer. We know they can amnesty boozer for 10 mill of cap space, and trade MDJ rather easily, and try to find suitors for ronnie brewer/etc contracts to get up to 15.

We also know the Bulls could have instead amnestied boozer outright and traded Gibson for assets, and had Melo walk way, facilitate with a 20 mill offer, and if he said no, we could have went after a different PF.

But instead the bulls are relying on Melo to trust the bulls, want to be there so much and have Phil Jackson bail them out.

Meanwhile, Danny Ainge is acquiring picks, looking to swing Rondo for assets and building up an offer for Kevin Love, a trade, where he doesn't have to hope the player trusts and loves them enough to bail them out.

What will everyone say when Melo ends up a Bull by EOD tomorrow.

I'd forgive them. But I still think that's somewhat of a pipedream.

We might also have to deal with the possibility that the city of Chicago isn't appealing to these guys. It may or may not be the case, but you sure never hear about people being interested in the Bulls just because of the city like you hear with NY/LA/MIA

Oh Jesus, not this blame the front office crap again. If the Bulls don't get Melo there is nothing the Bulls could have done about it. Nothing. It is not their fault.

It's Rose. It's his city. He's star No. 1. Players understand that.

It may not be their fault they didn't get Melo, but it will be their fault that they decided that Melo, a FA, was their only option, and then plan b is a 34 year old Pao Gasol, and then, I guess Vince Carter or something.

LAL has things work out for them for eternity, mainly because they work hard to achieve this. The LAC used to have agents across the league tell their clients to stay away. The NYK recently have struck out just as much and are near losing their only star.

Miami has had this work out one time due to Pat Riley and Wade. If that didn't happen, they are probably just as crappy an org as the marlins.

Who else is available? I'm pretty sure they went for Love (or would still go for Love) but probably don't have the assets for him. Everyone else is a tier below, so of course it'll be disappointing.

It's really not their fault they managed the franchise around a broken star player.

That broken star is practicing and looking good though. I think he'll be just fine going forward.

We offered Taj and Snell for love.

I'll leave that to you to decide if that is a good offer.

LeBron James reached out to two vet free agents last week about joining him, IF he left Miami, sources tell Yahoo. Mike Miller was one.

11:19am - 9 Jul 14

-woj.

Cavs also reached out to Mike Miller.

Gotta be Ray Allen/Miller, right?

Or Gasol...hmmm

Weren't you the one saying we shouldn't gut our team for Love and no team would do that?

No, I am love's number 1 supporter. At worst you have 2 25 year old superstars to build around.

edit: Behind Felix.

I thought you laughed at the notion of including someone like Noah. I would move Gibson, Mirotic, and our picks for Love. No problem about it. I think you need stars to win and would offer that. However, I don't know if that is enough.

Bulls FO is one of the few front offices in sports where trying is good enough.

I think no matter what we will be a preseason top 2 team in the east. I realize this is the east but lets not pretend we are some bottom dweller here. Add Lance and Mirotic (while getting creative) and call it a day. To go with Dougie McBuckets, that is a significantly better and deeper team then years past with significantly better offense.

Eh, I am not ok with just trying. They need to make a free agent splash and they continually whiff.
