Carlos Sanchez home run! Incredible. 3 homers lifetime before May 25th, now 5 in less than a month.

Pretty impressive power surge from him, although he could be maturing into his body. People forget how young he is. He might of or might not have forced the sox brass thinking, but it's possible he and Micah/Semien could be the middle IF of the future if they feel he can handle SS adequately.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 10:19 PM)
Maybe Carlos Sanchez ought to be in some of those top 100 discussions again

That's just not going to happen unless he ends up with 15-20 homers on the season.

Even then, like Hawkins, he's fighting coming off a down season, so the recognition really doesn't come until 2015.

Quite the line right there.

He's had no control this season. I wonder if the Sox moved him to the pen because of the lack of control or just because they figured he would end up there anyway. He was a fourth rounder last year so there's some prospect status if he starts throwing strikes.

His strange and terrible pitching line from tonight should be footnoted with Brett Austin's TERRIBLE defense behind the plate. Two of the five strike outs (well, obviously) were wild pitches that should have been passed balls. Austin threw a ball up the right field line on the second unnecessary K. That inning was brutal to watch, and honestly, for as badly as I wanted to watch the Sox affiliate on TV, I turned it off. Ugly.

On the positive side, his "stuff" is nasty. And I can't image its easy to catch a hard 12-6 in the dirt... over and over and over again. When its your second or third pro game.

And Sanchez can play SS, right?

Prior to Micah being called up and Marcus being sent down he'd only played like 7 games at SS, but during the last 2 weeks he's suddenly jumped up to 19 there on the season, so it appears he's playing there regularly in June.

Great offensive night for the Dash, including the big 3 prospects.

Anderson 3-4, homer

May 1-3, walk, triple

Hawkins 2-4, homer

Barnum has posted much better numbers since his abysmal April as well. Hopefully he just needed some time to adjust.

I'm getting pretty excited about Sanchez now. Still just 21 (for a couple more days), he's starting to look like he could be a major league regular.

QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 07:43 PM)
Justin Jirschele struck out twice on June 7th. Big deal, right? Only 2 K's counts as a good night for most of our prospects--Barnum, Mitchell, Davidson, Thompson, et al. Well, throw out that game and he has exactly zero strikeouts the rest of the season, covering 70+ PAs. Jirschele doesn't have squat for power and isn't really a prospect but still...pretty impressive. I hope they make Hawkins sit next to him on the team bus.

They said the same thing about Wade Boggs when he was in the minors. Third baseman, no power, not a prospect.

Jared Mitchell moves down to Birmingham.

I don't understand why the White Sox refuse to pull the plug.

Just silly.

Because there's no point in simply releasing a guy. Even through all of his struggles, I've never heard anything bad about him and he's seemingly been nothing but a class act. Until the need the roster space, they are going to hang on to him.

And you just compared Justin Jirschele to Wade Boggs. Yeah.

I've seen quite a few pictures of him spending time with younger players. He may never make the show, but if he can be a positive influence (and a cautionary tale) for the real prospects, I'm all for it.

Its not like the org has an abundance of OF prospects trying to push up through the system. Mitchell may be moved off the 40 man roster in the off-season, but until that point, there is no real good reason to make a move.

Just an observation, boys, don't get so upset. I never made a direct comparison between the two. Boggs spent six years in the minors and faced criticism because he played third and had no power. I have heard Boggs talk about it in interviews, stating that he had to overcome that negative evaluation., that stigma. So now we have a third baseman in minors who hits for high average but without power, and another poster said he is thus not a prospect. All I did was point out that a HOFer once had the same dilemma.

Just to be clear... Jirschele isn't even a starter in our minor league system. He wasn't drafted either. He does have a real hit tool, but his defense is marginal (though he can play a number of positions at that level). I like what he's doing, but it isn't sustainable, and he's a very long shot to ever see the bigs even as a utility man.
