GGajewski18
Anybody from California in here that can give me suggestions on good cities/towns to live in? I have been looking into the San Diego area but don't know much about it. Can anyone help me on what California/San Diego is like?
RockRaines
San Diego is an area of towns. Are you a hippie or a yuppie?

Weather is great (obviously) and I really enjoyed my three night stay there when I went down there to interview for a job.

I'm still currently in school, but me and my girlfriend are deciding on what to do with our lives after graduation. I'm a Sport Management major so I would love to get into professional baseball somehow as a scout or front office (GM is my dream job). But I realize thats not realistic out of college. I would love to coach also high school (as I already have experience) or college baseball. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 01:47 PM) San Diego's pretty awesome. Yeah it was great, I was there for a week couple years ago for a Dairy Queen convention.

Hey, I am also currently a sport management major. Only a year left.. We are hoping to be able to move in the Chicago area eventually.. I kind of figured I would have to start working with an independent league team or minor league team before being able to get into a front office of an MLB team which is also my dream as well.. Palehosefan
My sister and her family live there and it has amazing weather and outdoor activities. Traffic is about as bad as a normal big city, but the cost of living is really high and the people arent super friendly. If you can legitimately afford it and arent looking for any resemblance of a small town feel, then its a great option.

Where do you go to school? I'm at Concordia Chicago with about a year and a half left. If I had my choice, I would love to move to the Chicago area. So I am really trying to find a job here after school than making San Diego my second option. Yeah the cost of living is pretty high there, but I am really hesitant on moving but my girlfriend is all set on moving. So I gave in but I get to choose where we live. I'd rather live in San Diego than a suburb of San Diego. I'm already in the suburbs here, and with the possibility of moving out to California, I'm thinking mind as well go big. Plus, the weather is great year round so walking is a possibility all the time. Edited June 20, 2014 by SoxPride18

As part of our program the final think we do is an internship worth 12 credits that I will be doing somewhere next summer. I will probably end up interning at one of the local independent teams in the St. Louis area but I will certainly apply to the White Sox, other major league teams, and minor league teams.. nitetrain8601
San Diego is nice. Been there a couple of times. Lots of things to do, perfect weather year round, and you're right by the ocean. The Gaslamp district is happening, but not too loud or rude. Beaches are great. Zoo is the best in the world. In the end though, I would move to LA first and retire in SD. I need some grittyness and noise in my life. Plus, the abundance of sports teams. Housing is what makes living in Cali expensive. Without it, it's as expensive, if not slightly less expensive than Chicago, believe it or not.
Y2HH
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 12:28 AM) San Diego is an area of towns. Are you a hippie or a yuppie? ...not much difference these days. If you want to live in California in any kind of popular area -- be sure you're making about 120,000 a year, so you can be kinda-middle class. Less than 80,000 in most areas of California means you're living in poverty after that 2500$ rent. Edited June 21, 2014 by Y2HH

That's not a bad rent for California...but still shows that money doesn't go very far there.

Yeah, it's not. Still, it really puts how little $70k is in California in perspective.
