The Sox have the money, right? So why not start the pursuit of Tomas. Make it clear to Boras the Sox want and need him.

Not like they're talking to Boras now.

Tomas will need to spend some time getting all the paperwork taken care off.

those who knows the rules, what is the earliest Tomas can signed with any mlb team?

also if you can answer this other question, for those Cubans who are playing in Japan, why

can't they sign with MLB teams?

Cuban players still can’t yet come to Major League Baseball unless they defect from the island, but the agreements allow players to participate in foreign leagues during the summer (the offseason for Cuba) and return to Cuba afterwards to play in Serie Nacional. It’s not known how Cepeda’s contract will be split between him and the Cuban government.

many thanks for the updates, in essence we won't know who signs Tomas until the offseason.

Maybe this next year will play out like last year...

Coming out the gate around .500ish.

Falter.

Trade non-future pieces (Gordon, Putnam, Danks, Dunn, MAYBE Alexei and Dayan) for young prospects.

Sign some nice international prospects (Ynoa and Alfaro).

Sign a Cuban defector (Tomas). The savings from Sale and Quintana's deals will help towards this.

High draft pick.

Hope Year 2 pays off.

That being said, I'd rather they get into wild card contention.

So if we sign this guy it's one less hole. We'll have him, A. Garcia and Eaton in the outfield with DeAza or Danks as the fourth outfielder. Viciedo has to be let go or traded for scraps.

The key is to sign this guy as soon as we're allowed to. Abreu is working out; add this young man and at least our outfield is set.

true, a fix via free agent without giving up future prospect picks and a quick fix at that.

I wouldn't expect this guy to be any better than Viciedo out of the gate, based on his age and numbers in Cuba. He seems like he'll need some time in the minors; I'd look at him like an advanced prospect.

ADA will not be on the Sox next year. He's about to get expensive, and will be non-tendered.

And he really, really sucks.

I won't say sucks, but it wouldn't shock me if he got the baseball equivalent of a code red from his teammates. Having a teammate like that will just drive you crazy.
