Amado Nunez

Rank: 26

Santiago, Dominican Republic

Height: 6'2", Weight: 178

Position: SS

DOB: 10/10/1997

Bats: R, Throws: R

Scouting Grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 55 | Run: 55 | Arm: 50 | Field: 55

Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing close to 180 pounds, some have compared Nunez to a teenage Alex Rodriguez.

Overall, scouts like his medium-frame build, his bat speed and his power potential. He has also been praised for his fluid swing and balanced setup at the plate. The broad-shouldered teen can also hit the ball to all fields. The shortstop could end up at third base in the future but will likely stay in the middle of the infield for now because of his soft hands, quick feet and range. He also has an average but accurate arm.

The son of a colonel in the Dominican Republic's military, Nunez has been praised for his makeup and leadership abilities. Competitive and aggressive, he also played in international tournaments in Mexico and Venezuela.

Nunez is based in Santiago, Dominican Republic, and is trained by Aldo Marrero. The White Sox have expressed serious interest in the infielder.

Since we offered Nunez $900k, and Ynoa got $800k, is it safe to assume the Sox liked Nunez more????

I'll have to check with my sources and get back to you

Where is Yoan Moncada ? Is he eligible for this . I thought he was .

He is not eligible to sign until he establishes residency in another country and is unblocked by the OFAC. Probably will be October or November before he is signed.

WHITE SOX SIGN FOUR INTERNATIONAL FREE AGENTS

July 2, 2014 at 1:11pm

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, July 2, 2014

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms with four international free agents: catcher Jhoandro Alfaro and infielders Felix Mercedes, Ricky Mota and Amado Nunez.

Alfaro, 16, is rated by MLB.com as the No. 28 International Prospect. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound, switch-hitting catcher is the younger brother of Jorge Alfaro, a catcher in the Texas Rangers organization. Alfaro is a native of Sincelejo, Colombia.

Nunez, 16, is rated by Baseball America and MLB.com as the No. 26 International Prospect. Nunez, a 6-foot-2, 178-pound shortstop from Santiago, Dominican Republic, has competed in international tournaments in Mexico and Venezuela.

Mercedes, 17, is a 6-foot-2 and 185-pound middle infielder from Moca, Dominican Republic.

Mota, 16, is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound shortstop from Nigua, Dominican Republic.

Both Mercedes and Mota are right-handed hitters.

White Sox Senior Vice President/General Manager Rick Hahn and Special Assistant to the General Manager, International Operations, Marco Paddy attended today’s signing press conference at The Hotel Plaza Naco in the Dominican Republic.

"Today's signing ceremony is another step in a process that began two and a half years ago when Marco joined our organization with the goal of increasing our profile in Latin America, “ Hahn said. “Each of these young men here today is another talented addition to the Chicago White Sox organization.”

"I am very excited about the potential of these four players and our entire 2014 class," Paddy said. "I have gotten to know each of these players and their families very well over the last year, and I have been very impressed by their abilities on the baseball diamond and their character as young men. Their futures are exciting."

The White Sox expect additional Latin American signings in the coming months.

Did this rule change or are the Cubs and Rangers out next year too?

Mota also gets $750k

Ben Badler ‏@BenBadler 2m

After signing Amado Nunez and Jhoandro Alfaro, White Sox give $750,000 for SS Ricardo Mota (via @iplbaseball_rd) http://bit.ly/1m97sVk

So that means

Nunez $900k

Alfaro $750k

Mota $750k

Mercedes?

Wait, so Mercedes was our biggest signing?
