They have no pitching depth now, but their offensive prospects have to be the best in a decade. Hopefully Straily doesn't turn it around like Arrieta has. Feeky Magee
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 08:58 PM) They have no pitching depth now, but their offensive prospects have to be the best in a decade. Hopefully Straily doesn't turn it around like Arrieta has. Currency is currency. They have a lot of great prospects, they shouldn't have much problem finding pitching with their excess. LittleHurt05
Can you win a division by winning every game 10 to 7? Theo seems like he wants to try.

Jake
I'm still happy with the Sox, but I'd say this is the best return they've gotten in a trade so far. Just makes me chuckle that they aren't even remotely interested in building a winner with the current talent on the roster
Heads22
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 10:07 PM) Feldman and Maholm also. Quintana has been awesome for Sox though. Hopefully Putnam isn't a fluke, keeps thinking he's 2005 Cliff Politte, and can be added to this. Maybe Noesi too.

fathom
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 04:12 AM) Fantastic deal for Jed and Theo. Especially considering Samardzija has already started his typical fade as season goes on. Also, there was talk a few weeks ago the Cubs would go after him next offseason. Feeky Magee
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 09:02 PM) When's last time a team had 3 of the top 10 prospects in baseball, all hitters? Even aside from the big 3, they have some great depth. Schwarber who has started off unbelievably, Almora, Soler, Alcantara, McKinney who they just got, Eloy Jimenez. It's not like they're completely devoid of pitching on the farm either, CJ Edwards could be really good and they have some interesting farm pieces, a lot from the 2014 draft. I would kill for their system, literally kill.
GreenSox
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 10:07 PM) Feldman and Maholm also. Quintana has been awesome for Sox though. Feldman and Maholm weren't reclamation projects. They were just relatively cheap inning-innings free agents that they signed for the purpose of flipping. That's the approach we shouldn't have taken with Belasario and still should- give him some 7th and 8th inning work.
LittleHurt05
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 10:12 PM) Fantastic deal for Jed and Theo. It is a great return but I think the Cubs would be better off paying Samardzija. When you want to compete you can't keep banking on finding the next Scott Feldman or Jason Hammel. Feeky Magee
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 10:20 PM) It is a great return but I think the Cubs would be better off paying Samardzija. When you want to compete you can't keep banking on finding the next Scott Feldman or Jason Hammel. I'd definitely rather Addison Russell and the other valuable pieces than Samardzija/Hammel on talent-appropriate extensions
CaliSoxFanViaSWside
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 08:07 PM) Feldman and Maholm also. Quintana has been awesome for Sox though. Quintana is old news though . Hammel is new to the Cubs this year and Arrieta picked up last year. If Paulino had done just as well the Sox would be looking much better in the standings and on the trade front.
RockRaines
The sox have lots of trade chips though. It's not like they don't have a chance to add.
LittleHurt05
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 10:23 PM) I'd definitely rather Addison Russell and the other valuable pieces than Samardzija/Hammel on talent-appropriate extensions I understand the value aspect but you have to pitch to win playoff gashes. The Cubs might have one starter, if this is legit from Arrieta. Cubs have money to spend, so maybe overpaying a pitcher you airway have might not be a bad idea.
