LDF
Dank has been getting stronger on each of last several starts, or should I add it appears to be the case. furthermore, he came off an injury and last yr was imo a rebuilding yr for him. this yr is the yr to count. didn't he just have a career in k's a couple of starts ago or something. I think as it stands he is a very good 3/4 pitcher and as he gets his game back I would venture to say a 2-4 pitchers. lastly, any trade with dank should be with a package of another sox player like DV or GB or even dunn, so we can max the rtn. GreenSox
QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 01:06 PM) Those numbers are extremely inflated by 4 starts....Again in over 75% of his starts he has a 2.45 ERA with a Whip of 1.06. A low 4 era isn't even THAT bad.....It's 73rd among qualified pitchers....I don't think anyone is saying he's gonna net a huge package, but it most certainly should net something decent. 4 isn't bad - but they can find it for a lot cheaper than 14.5 million a year. He's not throwing hard and his K rate is low.... On the other hand, just scanning the top 50 pitchers in ERA, most are on teams that are contending (not coincidentally). Market may be tight. Hope you're right. Edited July 5, 2014 by GreenSox
2nd_city_saint787
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 01:36 PM) 4 isn't bad - but they can find it for a lot cheaper than 14.5 million a year. I doubt that Danks' is the only ERA out there inflated by a few starts. He's not throwing hard and his K rate is low.... Hope you're right though. Lol well the 13 Quality Starts is hard to argue with...again only 9 pitchers in all of baseball have more.
CWSpalehoseCWS
All depends on what the Yankees are willing to give up, but I would be all for moving Danks this season if the return was right.
southsider2k5
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 11:23 AM) For Danka, I would want back Gary Sanchez and maybe three of the INTL guys that they just signed, specifically Juan De Leon, Jonathan Amundary and Dermis Garcia and cash considerations. Pretty sure you can't trade the guys you just signed.
southsider2k5
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 11:58 AM) Disagree here, Danks may be overpaid but his salary won't prevent us from making moves going forward. Therefore, I'd like to see some real value in return or I'd just hold on to him. Not like we're loaded with pitching at the top of our system. IF we are seeing the real John Danks right now, he isn't overpaid, or anywhere close to it.
Rowand44
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 01:51 PM) IF we are seeing the real John Danks right now, he isn't overpaid, or anywhere close to it. I agree. And if we plan on contending next season, I still think John is more valuable to us than he is to any other team.

Quin
Yeah, to me Danks has done plenty to rebuild his value and we shouldn't just dump him for whatever the Yanks feel like giving.
Andy the Clown
The Sox would love to get rid of Danks's contract. Decent-upside, A-ball players is all that is that would be needed. Danks is nothing more than a fourth starter with a bad contract. A thousand times this. Just get rid of him. The return is irrelevant. Considering there isn't anyone to fill the hole Danks would leave or the two holes we currently have in the rotation, I'd say the return could be relevant after all. SoxAce
QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 11:56 AM) As Danks biggest fan, I really hope we either A. keep him or B. At least get a near ML ready pitching prospect back..... Yea me, Jason, maybe even Rock has something to say about that. Loved him since his days as a Rangers spect pitching in that stellar DVD trio. I'd rather have the financial flexibility going forward. If you're talking about finding someone to fill out the rotation for the rest of the year, sign Wandy Rodriguez to the minimum. If you're talking about finding someone to fill out the rotation for the rest of the year, sign Wandy Rodriguez to the minimum. It might kinda depend on what they're willing to do next year financially. It kinda doesn't make sense as a salary dump if they're looking to spend from here because they'd be spending the same money for that production next year. If they've already thrown in the towel on next year then yeah, salary dump for best we can get makes sense.

If you're talking about finding someone to fill out the rotation for the rest of the year, sign Wandy Rodriguez to the minimum. We have a LOT of financial flexibility even with Danks on the roster. I'll trade Danks if we get good value. His peripherals are horrible right now, I'm not sure if he can keep it up.

There is already space in the payroll as is and that doesn't include Dunn's contract coming off the books after the season is over. Boopa1219
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 12:55 PM) That would be a gigantic haul. No way that happens. If Danks gets moved, it may be similar to what we got back for Javy Vasquez I don't think is that gigantic, you're giving me 16 year olds who may never reach the major leagues for a proven major leauge pitcher plus you're too prospect. How bout the Sox send the Yankees Danks and the Sox get back Sanchez and two of those intl prospects. RockRaines
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 06:44 PM) Yea me, Jason, maybe even Rock has something to say about that. Loved him since his days as a Rangers spect pitching in that stellar DVD trio. I like him and I think he's going to get back to who we think he is. However our top three arms are all left handed and I wouldn't mind changing that. I also like him as a person, he's a good clubhouse guy, works his ass off and doesn't cause issues. I really wish there was a spot for him on this team. If he was right handed we may call him Garland and be perfectly happy. I know they have to deal him and I get it. There is a TON of room on the payroll. When this team starts to build we will be buyers, and heavy buyers at that. I firmly believe one arm in the rotation and at least one pen arm will be bought when we have to contend. I know for a fact they will open up the wallet when it's time.
