Dunt
Anyone subscribe to BP or BA? Is there any Sox on their Top 50 lists?

GGajewski18
I thought Tim Anderson was going to be on there? I know he's on Jason Parks' top 50.
TomPickle
Tim Anderson #38 on the Baseball Prospectus mid-season top 50.
maggsmaggs
This really should not be a shock. Anderson oozes potential, but his lack of defense and poor K-to-BB rate will cause him to drop in many eyes. Everyone else in our system has major flaws. Rodon no doubt would be there, if eligible. Y2Jimmy0
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 02:30 PM) This really should not be a shock. Anderson oozes potential, but his lack of defense and poor K-to-BB rate will cause him to drop in many eyes. Everyone else in our system has major flaws. Rodon no doubt would be there, if eligible. the guys at BP love Anderson. They think he may end up at 2B, but they love the power potential as a Brandon Phillips type player. Anderson didn't even crack the BP Top 101 in tyne offseason and Parks talked about regretting that after seeing him more. Now he's up to #38. Eminor3rd
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 01:30 PM) This really should not be a shock. Anderson oozes potential, but his lack of defense and poor K-to-BB rate will cause him to drop in many eyes. Everyone else in our system has major flaws. Rodon no doubt would be there, if eligible. From the article: Carlos Rodon (LHP, White Sox) Where he fits: Between Jameson Taillon (26th) and Mark Appel (34th) When everything is clicking Rodon looks like a good no. 2 major-league starter, with a plus-plus slider and solid plus fastball anchoring the arsenal. The command took a step back this spring, and the inconsistent velocity and execution leaves the door open to argue his exclusion from the list altogether. Assuming a fully rested Rodon looks more like the Rodon we saw on the Collegiate National Team last summer, he could establish himself as a top-30ish prospect this offseason after a strong Arizona Fall League showing. If the stuff shows inconsistent at the pro ranks, he might be fighting to find a spot in the 75 to 101 range
Ozzie Ball
from Parks' BP chat: GrinnellSteve (Grinnell): What are the chances Courtney Hawkins puts together a credible major league career? Last year's debacle apparently didn't kill him. That's a victory right there, isn't it? Jason Parks on the Top 50: Developmental speaking, surviving and rebounding from setback is always a positive thing. But I don't see Hawkins as an impact talent at the major league level. Could be a AAAA type or maybe an up/down power guy only guy, but I don't see the hit tool utility to bring the bat into a major league regular profile. Kip (Texas): Are you jumping off the Tyler Danish bandwagon yet? Jason Parks on the Top 50: I was on it from the beginning. I believe we were the highest on Danish of all the off-season lists. I'm not sure what Danish develops into, and its unorthodox, but I like the arm and I think he finds a way to defy the prototype we so often seek in a pitcher. Russ (Chi Town): Thoughts on Carlos Rodon? Am i crazy to think he'll be better than Aiken? Jason Parks on the Top 50: No. AIken brings a lot to the table but I think the Kershaw comps require drugs to be believable. Rodon was the top arm for me in the class. It's not crazy to think he;s better. Keith Hernandez (Just for Men): You originally thought Tim Anderson was more suited for 2B, but the latest Top 50 suggests a move to CF. Is this due to defensive concerns with groundballs and turning double plays? Jason Parks on the Top 50: I didn't write the Anderson capsule. But I think his likely home is either 2B or CF. Justin (Chicago, IL): Here in Chicago, the big focus has been on Cubs prospects (and rightfully so). Any thoughts for us White Sox fans as far as their overall system? Are we starting to see any improvements? Jason Parks on the Top 50: I really like the way the White Sox have approach talent procurement in the last 18 months; amateur draft, international market, trades. I think its a smart org that has been making smart decisions, and the system strength reflects that. I like the direction they are heading, and they could add to the farm with a few clever deadline deals this summer. bmags
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 08:23 PM) From the article: Sigh, already a projected #2 without a pitch thrown.
caulfield12
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 03:05 PM) Sigh, already a projected #2 without a pitch thrown. That's just asinine. And going mostly off this collegiate season, which statistically was better than the previous one except W/L record. It's like movie critics. Popular to pile on when there's some fresh blood on the water, instead of focusing on the positives.
Dam8610
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 7, 2014 -> 04:05 PM) Sigh, already a projected #2 without a pitch thrown. Just my opinion, but he projects as a very good #1 if he can get rid of the kinks in his mechanics that developed last year and develop a little better control, both things that the White Sox have had a good deal of success at developing in pitchers. Quintana sans the bad luck and NDs would be fine. I assume you mean statistically, of course, because the stuff is completely different. bmags
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 8, 2014 -> 01:52 AM) IF he turns out to be Jose Quintana, would that be an awful thing? Would it be awful? hell no. Was I hoping his potential of our highest draft pick in 25 years was still trending as a #1 before even throwing a pitch? Yes. Obviously it's meaningless, I just saw that and laughed.
