So he's running, hitting and throwing, they must just be waiting on a formal medical clearance before he does his rehab assignment. I would love to see him get 80 or so PA in September to knock a bit of the rust off.

Odds are it's mostly continuing to build strength and thengetting in "baseball" shape with timing and coordination. Basically he needs to go through Spring training.

Yea he probably couldn't do any upper body work for a few months and is probably just now getting back to lifting. Bat prolly felt pretty heavy in his hands the first few swings. There might be scar tissue he is also working through correct?

Shouldn't be much scar tissue as it was probably done arthroscopically. But you never know.

Everytime I see video of Avi doing fielding drills, whether it be from a few weeks ago in Boston, or yesterday during his feet-first sliding drills in Minny, he is ALWAYS failing to catch the ball. I find that kind of funny that they couldn't have filmed any drills with him actually catching the ball. The sliding fail from yesterday ended with him taking off his mitt and slamming it to the ground.

Nice SOT.

I saw the one from the Boston series where they showed him dropping a ball. You do have to wonder why they couldn't record something else.

He's more of a team leader than people think. I want him back real bad.

I read tonight where the Sox scored 9 runs 7 times before May 6th I think it was and only once since (tonight). When was Avi injured ? His presence in the lineup may have something to do with that . Or not , but I'll give him partial credit.

He's just one of those guys that everyone gels with. I want him back so bad. Even if he's a 6 hitter, he brings a lot IMO.

Soxtalk genuinely seemed depressed when Avi went down because we were all looking forward to seeing him develop. Now that we know what Abreu is capable of it's even more disheartening. Another .800-.850 OPS guy wold be huge for the Sox even if he's not left-handed . I think Avi can be that guy though the saber guys have their issues with him. He may not be that guy right away but he could be sooner rather than later. Get one more strong LH bat and put Avi in there with less pressure and this team will consistently score a lot more.

I know a lot of posters aren't huge fans of him and that's fine. But I really like him, his work ethic and his personality. I think he could develop into a Magglio type player at his peak. And with Abreu that's a contender IMO.

He definitely has the tool-set to be Maggs-like. There are reasons to be concerned about Avi, but there are lots of reasons to be excited, too. I can't wait until I can watch him play every day

I would agree with this. I don't see Avi having the .OBP/power that Maggs had. Maybe it's overlooked because he played during the steroid era, but if Avisail Garcia turned into a Ordonez we would have the best 3/4 combination in the league.

I think Avi can be a 25 HR guy consistently given how big and strong he is. Once he starts getting into more hitters counts and starts looking to drive the ball more he will really blossom . He has a very strong hit tool.

He needs to learn how to hit the ball in the air.
