LDF
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 05:02 AM) For those high on Bickford...I've heard not so nice things about his makeup and how he handled himself during his year at Fullerton. Stuff is obviously very plus though. interesting, now i know why he went from a potential #4 and plummeting downward. i was wondering what was causing his spiral. i am trying to remember if there was a pitcher coming out that had a back makeup? GGajewski18
QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 10:05 PM) I am rooting for Tyler Jay from U of I. Probably more of 4th-5th rounder but throws mid 90's with his left hand. He's a cousin of a friend plus I beat him a couple times growing up . That's awesome. You think Jay lasts until then? GGajewski18
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 10:33 PM) Guys I like for the Sox in the first round: Michael Muetella, who I think will not be drafted in the top 5 of the draft. Kyle Cody, the dude throws really, really hard and he has an ideal frame at 6'7 240lbs. Ashe Russell, a high school Impact arm, the guy hits 95 consistently and has a nasty slider. It would smart to go under slot and over spend in the later rounds. I'm torn on Ashe Russell, although he is from the Indiana, but from Indianpolis. For a HS kid, I think you would have to go at least slot or slightly above slot to get him in. I'm all for a college arm or bat and save some money while picking up some HS talent in rounds 4-7. GGajewski18
QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 10, 2015 -> 12:08 PM) Jesus he's a taken a big leap from last year. He's a pretty slight lefty that most scouts assume is destined for the pen. Not sure I would want to use an early pick on that profile alone but I am sure some team thinks they can keep him a starter. But yeah he used to play for a neighboring town and he was a much smaller kid when we were younger. He saw a growth spurt in high school and all of a sudden he was a top player in the area. Yeah I saw a video of him, he kind of pitches like Rodon as he doesn't finish all the way. But I am excited to see that Illinois team this year. Should be pretty good. daa84
fulmer with 5 IP 0 R 2 H 7 K...88 pitches Watched most of it. FB was popping - no radar gun that we could see but announcer said he was 94-95. That's about what it looked based on the hitters too. Slider was inconsistent - didn't throw if for a lot of strikes and he got away with a few hangers in the zone. Threw a change up more than last year - command wasn't great with it. Btw espn app will let you watch a ton of games this year. Walker buehler won't start this weekend due to soreness - so you won't see him. Tyler ferguson should pitch in the second half of DH today and projects as a second rounder if yoinwanna watch. So many good arms it's insane

So many good arms it's insane hey thanks for that visual updated rpt on Fulmer. i like him, but he is a RP who is being tried for as a starter. the problem is, he has only 1 pitch at this time that is plus. his FB which can be touched at 98 with consistently. his slider, according to scouting rpt is really good, but is really inconsistent, and a changeup which he is still developing. i would love to see how this season, how he continue to develop or is he a RP. i love the fact that college ball is starting. can you continue with these updates???? daa84
I'll do my best to post about the vandy games I am able to watch and any potentially high round draftable players (fulmer, buehler, Swanson, ferguson - a few others will be top round next year - stone, Reynolds). Great start for the top starters. Also bear in mind to that the college baseballs have changed this year. They lowered the stitches on the balls (similar to the pro ball), and it's expected to make a big impact in scoring. Breaking balls will be tougher to spin, and the ball will carry more. There were a few balls that were hit yesterday that seemed to carry a lot (specifically one by potential top 10 pick Dansby Swanson on a triple to the opposite field gap)
daa84
also re: fulmer -yes he was the closer at the start of the year last year, but that's only cuz they already had two right handed first rounders in the weekend rotation ( beedee and buehler). It became obvious he was suited best as a starter at the college level. His slider is also a plus pitch and might grade out higher than his fastball, he was just spotty with it yesterday. That said, I do think that his command and lack of a solid changeup may ultimately make him a reliever in the pros. His arm action is so fast Id imagine it also will raise some durability issues. daa84
since he's projected to go near where the sox pick, I'll post my impressions from Swansons opening weekend. Offensively he had an excellent weekend - hit a ball to right center gap for 3b, had quick hands on a ball inside off the plate and kept it fair for a 2b off the LF wall, poked some singles through the right side, drew a couple walks. stole a base. Overall went 6/14. overall, I'm not exactly sure how his game projects to the next level. He hit tool is his strongest ability, and has some gap power, but I'm not sure it projects to big league HR power. Speed is good, but probably more in the 20 SB range. I think his true value is tied to his defense....and it was our first time seeing him at SS. It will take more time to judge his defense, but he made a critical error, made some shaky throws to first and made a easy play or two look more difficult than they should have been. It's opening weekend, so some of that is expected, but it was also on artificial surface, so the bounces were all true Edited February 15, 2015 by daa84

I still find that Pedro Alvarez avatar of yours great though. He was amazing in Vanderbilt. Thanks for the kind words. I've still been lurking, just posting less. The days of the chat room for the 9pm west coast start are probably over ( I'm guessing the chat room doesn't even still exist!) but wheni ve been deprived of baseball for 5+ months I will certainly still spend 10 hours watching (and posting)on that first college weekend. Iirc the avatar is from Pedro's fresh year. Work and other life obligations will likely limit my viewing in the coming months, but I'll do my best to at least keep the board informed on the potential VU guys we could draft with the top pick Btw: your avatar is also quite awesome....even tho my memories of peavy are somewhat disappointing, his comeback from that injury/surgery were unprecedented Edited February 16, 2015 by daa84
LDF
new mock draft today, this one is interesting. they has the sox drafting Kolby Allard, LHP, while Nathan Kirby, LHP, Virginia and some others avail. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2346481...-edition/page/3 this one has prospect all over the place being picked. oh it is my opinion. http://fueledbysports.com/nathans-mlb-mock-draft-2015/ this one at least, for me, has the names right for the first 5 picks. http://mockdraftmlb.com/?page_id=50 this one has his head up his arse..... what the fvck. https://mlbdraftcountdown.wordpress.com/201...raft-1-0-11715/ finally this one has their crap together. i was wondering if they were doing the medicinal hash oil. http://www.mymlbdraft.com/MLB-Mock-Draft
