That is just nasty. If he can develop that change up into an above average pitch, I would love if the Sox take him at 8. I don't care about his size.

I said a few months ago that my pick for offensive player would be Daz Cameron if they go HS, Ian Happ if they go college. And my pick for a pitcher would be Carson Fulmer. He seems to be impressing right now.

Ian Happ has 2 HRs in 4 games for the Bearcats.

I'll do my best to post about the vandy games I am able to watch and any potentially high round draftable players (fulmer, buehler, Swanson, ferguson - a few others will be top round next year - stone, Reynolds).

Great start for the top starters. Also bear in mind to that the college baseballs have changed this year. They lowered the stitches on the balls (similar to the pro ball), and it's expected to make a big impact in scoring. Breaking balls will be tougher to spin, and the ball will carry more. There were a few balls that were hit yesterday that seemed to carry a lot (specifically one by potential top 10 pick Dansby Swanson on a triple to the opposite field gap)

Thanks for these reports, much appreciated!

So far, so good with Fulmer, Funkhouser, Kirby and Matuella playing great. As last year showed, the more players with helium during the season, the better the chance someone drops to the Sox pick that likely should have gone higher.

Plus, it'll be interesting to see how Walker Buelhler does this season. It's a very good chance one of these guys will fall to the Sox at 8.

new mock draft today, this one is interesting. they has the sox drafting Kolby Allard, LHP, while Nathan Kirby, LHP, Virginia and some others avail.

this one has prospect all over the place being picked. oh it is my opinion.

this one at least, for me, has the names right for the first 5 picks.

this one has his head up his arse..... what the fvck.

https://mlbdraftcountdown.wordpress.com/201...raft-1-0-11715/

finally this one has their crap together. i was wondering if they were doing the medicinal hash oil.

The first one lost me at the Astros taking Brady Aiken again at #2. If they are not able to sign him there they will lose the pick.

The second makes some sense at this point based on the information going into the season.

The third is plausible, but probably done by an Astros fan.

The fourth seems pretty similar to the second.

The fifth is reasonable as well.

Of the five two have the sox landing Dansby Swanson and two have Kyle Funkhouser. The crazy one had the Sox take HS prep LHP Kolby Allard.

I still think the Sox are going to go cheap on this pick and try to either get someone they like underslot like the Cubs did with Schwarber last year, or find a discounted guy like Jeff Hoffman, Lucas Giolito or Erick Fedde and then use the savings to be aggressive later in the draft.

I agree completely. Would love to go under slot on a college pitcher/bat then be real aggressive in the later rounds on the HS talent.

I'm really looking forward to how this draft shakes out, It appears to be very heavy on college pitching, solid on high school pitching/hitting and very light on collegiate hitting. With the sox picking at 8 and then all the way at 114 and a bonus pool of $5,540,051 it'll be very interesting to see how Hahn and company go about this draft.

Personally I like Fulmer a lot, weird arm action, elite stuff and under-sized; all the underpinnings that scream white sox. I'm hoping the sox sign him or if a top arm falls similar to a Lucas Giolito situation snatch him up. If Fulmer is the pick I hope they can sign him under slot a bit and land a Bryce Montes de Oca type.

Last years assigned value for #8 was $3,190,800 nearly 58% of the pool this year.

The latest Fangraphs Audio with Kylie McDaniel they were discussing that exact AB last year. They said Chris Reed was the best hitter in all of college last year and he just aced him out of the bullpen in that AB. They said Fulmer has the weirdest, most alarming mechanics of all the top college arms. Then McDaniel's said that he is done discounting players with painful deliveries because he has been wrong so far about Tyler Danish. Made me think Fulmer would be such a perfect fit for us.

But then again, Ian Happ is doing big things so far. Hitting about .500 through 5 games with 2 HR and 5 RBI.

I just listened to that podcast after I posted this. Personally I like him more than Funkhouser and if the sox are in contention I don't see why they couldn't offer a similar deal as sale with the goal to stretch him out eventually but ticket him to the bigs in the bullpen for a divisional push. Its not as if thats a death sentence and he is really polished out of the pen and as a fan I wouldn't consider that wasting the #8 pick if the expectation is that he is a starter. His mechanics remind me of Roy Oswalt a bit as well.

Who's the best collegiate catcher?

Anywhere close to projecting at #8?

From looking at draft boards, it looks like a ton of collegiate pitching, middle infielders and some outfielders.

Is there anyone who has spent some time catching in the past but has been playing 1B/3B/DH/LF like Schwarber last year?

http://m.mlb.com/news/article/107044448/20...top-10-catchers

Here's the Top 10 prospects for catching list.

The Mets seem to have a surplus, then there's the oft-mentioned Gary Sanchez.

Justin O'Conner with the Rays is a really interesting prospect as well...but their incentive to deal a top prospect these days has to be pretty darned low.

The weather in Nashville lead to the Vandy uic series to be cancelled, and instead Vandy is playing Indiana state in Tampa at the Rays spring training facility. As such, there is unfortunately no tv broadcast so I can't watch and give updates this week

Dillon Tate of UCSB completely blowing up so far this year. Seeing stuff on twitter about him being a top 5 pick.

and if true, then someone in the top 5 will fall, leaving some possible better players for the #8 pick.
