I just don't see the Sox taking a 2B/SS at #8 overall. There's already a ton of depth at those spots. I'd much rather take a pitcher or a power hitter at that spot.

that is the thing that has been bothering me for the past several weeks. the rumblings and this is the 3rd i think, mock that has the sox picking him at ss, even when there were some notable arms being available. i didn't want to mention it, i didn't want it to seem as i didn't have faith in Anderson.

the problem is why??? why are they thinking the sox at 8 will pick anything other than an arm??

I'm an English major in my free time, so I should know better. If you ever want to know about the tenants of the romantic movement of the early 19th century, I am your guy. I do want to work in a front office, however.

Some 2016 players to start keeping an eye on: Seth Beer, Blake Rutherford, Herbert Iser, Cavan Biggio, Zach Collins.

i am starting to hear Mac Marshall-sp, Bolt-of and Rhett Wiseman-of. they may climb into the 1rd. i am wondering who is dropping.

That's entirely short sighted. Not to sound like a broken record but you take the best player available. If that's Aiken then take him. Obviously you'd prefer him under slot but it's not as if you take someone with less of a chance to contribute in the MLB because of that. I don't think the Nationals are upset that they had to wait a while for Lucas Giolito.

Coming off of TJ surgery, that is impossible to know with Aiken. You can hope he is the best player, but you can't know for sure how he will take after the surgery.

Exactly. While some pitchers are better after TJ, some aren't. If Brady Aiken has a smaller UCL, maybe that makes complications from TJ more realistic, or all the more likely that he has to get it again.

His injury risk is definitely part of the equation when deciding to take him.

They can give him a bigger UCL in surgery.

The only reason why I wouldn't be willing to take that gamble with a pick around #10 is if Coop said no.

a poster said, and i can't find the thread, that this yr draft has the makings of not be a good one.

taking a look at it, depending on how the pro's describe it, i think it really nice in the top, lets say 10 picks.

after that, well you can define it how you want. for me, there is a ton of really nice hs'ers that can, if they develop, as some expect, will be decent mlb'ers. superstar >>> well maybe not. but the kind of players that the big team needs to fill out a team.

so with the sox picking at 8, for me, it would be a really suspenseful time, until draft day comes and goes.

Since 2012 the drafts have been pretty weak. 2014 was decent, but 2016 looks to buck that tend because there is high end talent in both the high school and college ranks, especially a group of solid college position players which hasn't been seen in some time.

I am hoping we pick last in 2016.

a toast with some sox kool aid,

i am itching and dying to debate the BPA idea, but i will wait a couple more weeks. i would really like to see how the mock draft's will list the prospects.

Debate what though? You should always go BPA in the baseball draft. In the first round specifically, you should never worry about a position.

Also the hype is building around Kyle Tucker.

that is my guy... i was really enamored with him, Ian Happ and Kirby.... i think i had a couple of other pitchers before the season started that didn't panned out. Tucker, how far can he rise, also he is rail thin, wait until he puts on 20-30 lbs of good weight / muscle.... the best hitter in the prep class and niceeeee power with a nice avg...

now if he can maintain it?? that is the question.

Kirby is doing really good this yr so is Happ. Happ the best hitter in college ranks, can play a weak 2b, cf, corners of.... i wonder if he can play 3b?

i now found out, according to a blog about Bickford. his secondaries pitches didn't develop as some pro's had hope..... but it is still a long college season.

Allard is out due injury for the season. how bout drafting him 4th rnd and buy out his college commitment, if he falls that far??

If Matuella, Russell and Aiken are off the board, I would take Tucker at #8 In a heartbeat

Interesting to compare Hoffman's recovery to that of Aiken/Matuella. Personally, I don't want the Sox to take either.

Frankie Piliere

‏@FPiliereD1

On his road back from TJ surgery, #BlueJays prospect Jeff Hoffman threw a 1-2-3 inning today in ST and worked at 95-98 mph. Wow

I'm the complete opposite. Sox could have (assuming Shark signs extension) 4 starters with at least 5 years of control.

Ones could stay the 5th starter while one of them develop for a year or two.

If Aiken and/or Matuella are there for the Sox at 8 I will be ecstatic.

Sorry to hear about both of them regardless, it sucks.

i was planning on this later in the season, but now that Matuella is out, and it has probably been a while ago, he has missed at least a week, but i would not chance by taking them. they are talented pitchers and i really feel for them, their dreams coming to this. but there is 1 troublesome problem they both have that concerns me. that is genetic disorders and how will they respond to rehab, can it be repaired or fixed.... i am sure there are many more valid points that someone who is smarter than i can raise.

but at #8, the sox should pick a healthy player.
