GGajewski18
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 7, 2015 -> 11:29 AM) SoxPride is going to like this from the Keith Law chat: Justin (Chicago) Rumor is the White Sox are targeting college pitchers with their first pick. What are your thoughts on organizations who target only a specific group of players? Specifically to the White Sox, they really have not developed a hitter forever. Do some orgs just feel as though they have a better strength and developing position players or pitchers, so they target them more? Klaw (1:23 PM) I think the White Sox have such a good track record developing pitchers I wouldn't question them taking another one - it's a clear core competence at this point. I've heard them specifically on Tyler Jay at 8. Oh, you know me too well Jimmy! I'm super excited about this.

LDF
Well draft day for mlb is june 10. my little notebook, part 1 for this yrs draft. there are mock draft that help me come up and keep track of my favorite thing in sports, keep an eye on prospects of the future. I usually keep a list of assorted players and see how it is compared to the draft by the pro's. This yr, it was a rough yr, because there weren't many favorites and of those left, many got injured. While others didn't do as well as many have thought. Rodgers – ss, is by far the hands down best in this draft, imo. The next group is Swanson – ss and Tate - P. Now comes the rest and how other percieved then. So I am going to list them by positions. Cat - Tyler Stephenson, Chris Bettis those are the favorites and are preps. Mi – Bergman, R. Martin, and K. Newman. D. Thompson . outside Rodgers and Swanson, there are some interesting names. Of - Happ, DJ Stewart, Cameron, Tucker, Whitley. is is a group that i like and there might be a few new surprises that are peaking. Pitchers – forget about it. Too many to list. too all over the place. the prep pitchers may surprise me in the final day. how are teams seeing the pitching this yr, i wish i knew. so it appears that as of today, the strategy that i wanted to use last yr, may come into play this yr. over slot agreements with players before the draft. i am still standing my ground, this will be the last yr, for a long time, the sox pick this high. I saw the last couple of innings of Fulmer's CG shutout vs S Carolina yesterday. It was a repeat from the day before, I believe. He obviously looked great. Plenty of scouts there, no doubt. ChiliIrishHammock24
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 11, 2015 -> 08:47 AM) After reading what McDaniel has been writing about the 2016 draft, I'm glad we gave up 2 picks this year rather than next year. McDaniel has also said that when scouts or experts talk about "weak drafts" or "deep drafts", they are pretty much referring to the 1st 15 picks. Everyone from picks 16-1000 are generally the same every year, and it's hard to really evaluate them anyway. So just because the top 10 this year will be weak compared to last year's top 10, it doesn't mean our 2nd and 3rd RD picks this year would have been worse than last year's. LDF
Ok for starters, there were quite a few players who got hurt in the beginning of the season or during. Of those I am going to mention that some may not have realize or known about. 1. Tyler Stephenson – cat – prep – came back early most already know of him. 2. Jake Lemoine – sp – college – hurt his should was ranked #9 coming into the season, still no surgery, no further info., 3. Kendall Rogers – sp – college – acl injury. Rtn unknown. 4. Kep Brown – of – prep. Predicted if all went well, should have made the 1 round. A better version of Chris Shaw. Another name that was an exciting prep player just removed his name for the mlb draft. This player is Kyler Murray – ss – predicted to be a 1 rounder. He is predicted to be a 1 rounder in football…. Multi talented player. Now, another thing that is being discussed, the wild card, UNDER SLOT agreements with the players, as of thursday their was talked of just Arz and their #1 pick. But there is discussion that Hou and Col are thinking the same. This is going to throw a huge monkey wrench into the mechanism. So I see, if true, most of the mock draft up to now as being nothing but good reading. Arz – either .T. Stephenson – cat – prep or G. Whitley – of – prep, tough choice Hou – they need infielder - Dansby Swanson – ss – college Cou - I thought Brendan Rodgers – ss – prep, but now I don’t know if it a prep SP Tex – if Rodgers is there is not, D. Tate – sp – college Hou – here I s the underslot deal, so who will it be, Cameron, Tucker – preston brother, hou outfielder, or Chris Bettis, cat- prep, surprise name here . Minny – who in hades know. No word out of their camp. A college SP or Of . Bos. – either Bergman - ss or Buehler – sp – both college. Sox - under slot. pick Donnie Dewees - of - college, tied for the ncaa in homers, walks and hits, plus among the top for sb. Now the sox at 8, I was really thinking outside the box here. I looked at the needs of the team. So I had several options. SP - Jake Lemoine, but since this morning and no surgery, forget about it. Next I am leaning on: Donnie Dewees – of – college. He is arguable the best hitter in college this yr, supplanting Happ and others. He is in the top 2 or 3 in most offensive categories, can play most any OF positions but he is a CF’er. David Thompson – 3b – college, got hurt, missed his soph yr, came out last cape and was in the tops in hits and hrs. this yr, continued hitting homers and is good at defense. hard to choice http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/strong-spri...top-few-rounds/ http://www.ncaa.com/stats/baseball/d1 http://www.ncaa.com/stats/baseball/d1/current/individual/321 http://www.ncaa.com/stats/baseball/d1/current/individual/483 http://www.ncaa.com/stats/baseball/d1/current/individual/

Your research is impressive and love how your thinking outside the box. Don't know how I can contribute since you know more about these kids than myself. You just exposed me LDF. With the Sox losing both second and third round picks, going way under slot to have more money later is not a bad strategy. Personally, depending on who's left after the first seven picks, I'd like to see a college pitcher picked in hopes that pitcher can get rise through the system quicker and maybe see him sometime in 2017, or sooner? I see both sides of the coin. I think spreading the money out is a good plan for a team that is rebuilding but if a team is looking to contend or be close to it, the BPA is the better choice in my humble opinion. Who knows, maybe Dewees ends up a Schwarber type pick for the Sox.
harfman77
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 11, 2015 -> 10:23 AM) Keith Law and Kiley McDaniel have pretty solid intel. I'd be surprised if it's not a college pitcher for the White Sox Funkhouser seems to be the exact thing that the Sox tend to go after. Great FB, solid secondary pitches that should develop into plus, just needs a little refinement to reach his ceiling. Plus being a local kid really helps as well. Unless he is gone, I would be surprised if he is not the pick. If he is gone, the Sox may roll the dice and go underslot on Matuella and offer him $1.4M. Since he is injured the Sox are only required to give him 40% of slot value to get compensation if he does not sign. If he does, you have a guy that was the pre-season #1 overall pick (two years in a row) at a discount and can use the $2M saved to get some high end talent that slips due to signablitiy. If he doesn't sign you have two first round picks, including #9 overall, in what figures to be a much better draft next season.
