greg775
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 07:10 PM) I'll never forget seeing him drive out of the parking lot at Spring Training in 2007 when he waved at our group with a Coors Light as he drove by. This couldn't have been more than 10-15 minutes after the game. If that's true, that's just horrible of Ozzie. I mean you can't wait til you get to the hotel to drink some beer? It's even worse than texting and driving, though not by much. Very very dangerous to drink/text and drive. I thought all teams got rid of alcohol in the clubhouse. Is your story true? As far as Ozzie, I won't go into all the reasons I love him again, but BRING HIM BACK. He's a winner! As far as Ozzie again, tell the truth would you rather have Ozzie as your manager right now or Robin?? And why? I'd take Ozzie for reasons you probably don't want to hear again. Org needs to break out beyond the "immediate family" in the worst way.

Ventura, by a landslide. A guy like Ozzie might work with a veteran team, but I think for what we are doing now, we need more stability and leadership at the top. The Ultimate Champion
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 12:19 PM) I think circumstances led to his demise. If the Sox don't win the World Series, Ozzie, who isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, isn't subjected to the constant butt kissing, and praise and talk about his genius. He doesn't get into the war of egos with KW. He isn't educated. He isn't very bright. IMO, he is the easiest type to get caught up into the hype. It's one reason I find it incredible DRose has never gotten a huge head. One thing if I were making decisions I could never get past, was his putting trying to embarrass KW over winning. (Not that I don't think KW didn't deserve to be knocked down a couple of pegs) But a lot of players liked him. Start out small, maybe a Soxfest appearance, spring training instructor. See how those go. If he returns to what he was when he left, pull the plug, but if he is willing to toe the line, he could be an asset. Yeah I have to call absolute bulls*** on this. KW is a Stanford guy and he pretty much wrote the book on what you're not supposed to say in public. He's called out the fans, the greatest hitter in franchise history, etc. Just because you're "educated" doesn't mean you won't act like a prick. And I'm a huge KW fan but the guy had his moments for sure. Education is the process of accumulating knowledge. Being the center of your own universe and maintaining a massive ego is completely different. Just compare a helpful medical professional or a legal expert helping non profits to your average jerkoff highly educated party friends who just want to get drunk so they can argue their world views and such, and rationalize war and murder and talk about all this s*** they'll never actually understand because they don't care enough about other people in the first place to learn anything. It's all about ego, it's all about whether you can stop admiring yourself long enough to look around you & realize what your real strengths and weaknesses are & what your place is in the pecking order. There's always going to be someone that does something better than you, that knows more about X than you, that is more capable than you in a whole host of other areas, etc. Kenny was able to realize some of that stuff, he was able to keep his ego at least somewhat in check. Kenny still has a massive ego & wants to be smarter than everyone else, but he did put Hahn in charge of dealing with agents which wasn't one of his strong points, and he did make comments multiple times about how it's really best if he isn't the one dealing with the media. Ozzie really thought he could do no wrong. His strengths were upholding a certain clubhouse character/atmosphere and dealing with the media, as well as trusting his players especially his pitchers. But that's it. You don't "learn" how to control your emotions in some school somewhere, you learn that in life. Ozzie had everything he needed to become a very good manager for a long time in the bigs but he just didn't grow up enough. That said, eventually his #13 will be on the OF wall, but he should never, ever be allowed to manager, coach, or even consult for this team again. In order for him to attend anything sox related, he would need permission from the marlins.

greg775
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 16, 2014 -> 08:27 PM) That story was 100% true. I don't know (or can't speak towards it at least) that they took alcohol out of the clubhouse, but this was in 2007 and the Coors Light could have been in his Escalade. You guys could have called the cops on Ozzie and got him in a heap big pit of trouble. Can't have open containers. Stupid and they'll keep you in the jail 24 hours I bet. Maybe in Chicago, but the story was in Spring Training in Arizona, they actually care about that stuff down there. Typically, as long as the patron isn't intoxicated, it's an open container violation, which is just subject to a fine.

greg775
Cowley certainly hurt Ozzie with this story. Ozzie couldnt help himself by saying "I wish" when asked if he wanted to manage. So it got twisted that he wants Robin's job. Conclusion: This reminds the White Sox why it's nice not having Ozzie around. He talks too much to media and this proves he can't stop and play the cliche game. Ozzie can't handle the media part of the job. He's too funny and honest. Basically he likes reporters too much. Most managers tolerate reporters but certainly don't trust or really like them. Ozzie either feels he has to entertain them or at the least give them good copy. Kyyle23
Ozzie can do no wrong to Greg. It's all Cowleys fault that Ozzie is basically angling for Robins job
greg775
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 02:26 PM) Ozzie can do no wrong to Greg. It's all Cowleys fault that Ozzie is basically angling for Robins job Cmon. He's not angling for Robin's job through Cowley. I didn't get that at all through that story. And if those 2 had that intent, they are the dumbest 2 individuals alive. Robin is actually doing fine with the talent he's been given, as much as I've disagreed with moves in 3 games I think he personally cost the Sox this year. Ozzie isn't that dumb to think he can get a job managing the Sox through Cowley. I guess Jerry could do anything when it comes to Ozzie, but a better way of getting the job is having Jerry come to his kid's wedding as Jerry did. I do love Ozzie, though. You are correct, sir.
