royoung
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 09:01 AM) In addition to Johnson, there were a number of other nice pitching performances last night. Dykstra with a nice A+ debut: 6.2 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 8 K. Recchia 1 ER in 6.1 IP, keeping his ERA under 3 (though he only K'd 2). Lowry came back from DL and threw 5 1-hit innings, 2 walks and 6 K. Luis Martinez in AZL went 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K and he's still just 19. Luis Martinez, signed for 250k out of Venezuela, was one of Marco Paddy's first signings. southsider2k5
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 17, 2014 -> 10:59 PM) I mean he didn't get a huge sample size last year and it was his first taste of the majors.. It might take him a year to figure it out but we have to at least give him a chance. But I have a feeling Flowers won't be going anywhere unless he gets hurt He either needs to find an all-star level bat, or he needs to learn to play defense. With even an average bat, and terrible defense, he is the last thing we need for our pitching staff.

He honestly could be a right handed Adam Dunn in his prime. 240-260 hitter with 30-40 HR potential.

I read a lot of comps to Mark Reynolds when the trade happened, which seemed lazy because the D-Backs were involved but were actually fitting for their playing styles. If what we get out of Davidson looks anything like Reynolds' four years in Arizona, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Hard to say 2 months is a "glitch" where as 1.5 months is indicative. But he is certainly now doing more like what we all expected, so that's encouraging. When Miguel Cabrera did nothing for the first three weeks of the season and then followed it up with three monster weeks, we all probably assumed the struggles had just been a glitch. Basically what I'm saying is that Matt Davidson is the same as Miguel Cabrera.
