caulfield12
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 11:02 AM) I just feel the Red Sox have higher standards for their OF than Dayan Viciedo. Like Daniel Nava and Grady Sizemore? Johnny Gomes? Ryan Carp?
caulfield12
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 11:20 AM) This isn't David Price we're talking about. It's John Danks. You aren't getting a hell of a lot for him any ways and it's not as if the Sox have no use for him. I mean, really, if they trade Danks, who is replacing him in the rotation? Andre Rienzo? That's real exciting. Although I would imagine if they took those savings and spent it on Shields (and that wouldn't be my my move), it would help sell a lot more tickets than having John Danks as the #3 guy in the rotation heading into 2015. The Ultimate Champion
If the O's get Price then the Yanks can even the score by taking on Danks' deal haha I can just hear Cashman going "This Price deal puts them in better position to compete with us." The Ultimate Champion
Well if the Yanks have scouts in the stands I hope they're blind. Or constipated/in the bathroom passing kidney stones. God damn I just hope they're not watching this. Maybe Robin can pull him now before it gets worse.

Yeah well that turned out well. This whole John Danks trade idea seems to float about as well as a canoe full of bullet holes. LOL 45 pitches & he's not through the second. It's very unlikely that today's performance really changed opinions teams have of Danks. He is a back-end rotation arm making $15 million. Today will not change that. brian310
A lot of teams calling in on Hammel and Latos was now made available. Danks market has to be just about gone I'd imagine

caulfield12
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 11:47 AM) Nava has an OBP of .363 in over 1200 PA's for the Red Sox. Sizemore was one of the best players in baseball at one point. They took a shot on him. Gomes had a .868 OPS the year before the Red Sox acquired him and was a starter and leader for their WS team. Ryan Carp hasn't been in the MLB since '97. And Craig was an All-Star LAST year, but has a lower OPS than Viciedo now. Sizemore was that player when the White Sox were in the World Series. Gomes isn't an everyday player and hasn't been for many years.

Not only is Hahn risking injury, but he's also putting him up against one of the top offenses in baseball.
Andy the Clown
Since no one will take Danks, we have to aim for this rotation by 2016; 1) Sale 2) Q 3) ? 4) Rodon 5) Danks Despite Danks' suckitude, that's pretty good if they can get a real #3. By the way Rock, did the Sox lawyers and money-men call a meeting to discuss dinner locations?

I think the order of likeliest scenario is: 1) They trade Danks, eating as much as they have to 2) Rodon is in the pen for "a litle while" to "gain experience" as the Sox try to do #1 3) The Sox trade Q for a haul They'll still try to dump Danks over the waiver period & if they can't dump him during the season then dumping him will be a major offseason priority. There's no way you let him pitch today if you wanted to trade him (and pay the $10 mill or so required to trade him). And he's complying, putting up a clown show this afternoon. Feeky Magee
Anyone in here beginning to rethink the notions of a) Danks being a mid-level starting pitcher and b) getting salary relief for him would not be a good thing?
