Thought that deal was for only home games?

5 games off the Wildcard spot is the positive thing to look at and I wonder if this is why we haven't seen any movement on the trade front.

Our schedule over the next couple of weeks isn't too bad. We have 6 more games against the Twins (3 at the Cell, 3 on the Road), 3 Home games against the Tigers and 3 Road games in Detroit.

If we can get a decent enough record in the next 2 weeks then who knows, as unlikely as it seems, we could challenge for that 2nd Wild Card spot.

The Glass may be half-full and it's certainly tasting better than it tasted last year.

The Red Sox and White Sox were tied going intoyeaterday w 54 losses. Somone is New England ran a mathematical probablility of the Red Sox making the wildcard based on estimated performanace of the other teams in front of them. the odds were 6% of making 2nd wildcard. As I posted the other day, last year I saw a "numbesr person" person figure that you add 1.5 games for every team in front of you in addition to the games back. So the White Sox are about 12 games back.

Sounds more like a punishment.

I just get the garlic parm bread sticks for like 2.50. So damn good. And to an earlier poster, it's every game they score 5, I know this cause I'm a fat kid.

Back to baseball......This time last month the Rays were 11 out and now they're just 4.

With 9 of the next 12 against teams with worse records than the Sox it may get interesting. Those 12 games are followed by good teams the rest of the way though.

I'd say the only really chance they have is if they go something like 8-4 in these next 12 and then Avi comes back shortly after and provides a spark plug along with Lindstrom/Jones coming back and providing some stability in the pen.

Classic "buyers or sellers" situation. If we do buy and make the playoffs, this team still wouldn't make it out of the wild card round.

Honestly, I would have said that about a lot of teams that ultimately did end up winning it all. It's a matter of being hot at the right time. I thought the Tigers were a mortal lock to make it to the World Series last year. I simply won't ever discount or count on teams to make it to the World Series.

That said, this version of the Sox team making the playoffs is quite unrealistic.

If Sale was pitching, I'd love the Sox chances against any team.

The problem with deadline trades, at least according to an article I read that claimed significant research, they very rarely actually push you over the top and help you win a WS.

Just for the Sox, I guess you can say Blum helped the Sox win, but they probably win without him. Charles Johnson was maybe the Sox best midseason acquisition in 2000, but they were quickly eliminated. Julio Cruz helped the 83 team, but they won by 20 games, I doubt he made that much difference.
