There are surely minor league players involved in this. Murmurs that Taijuan Walker going to TB

If the M's gave up Walker and Franklin for Austin Jackson, Jack Z should be fired on the spot. #JumpToConclusionMat

Price, Scherzer, Sanchez, Verlander vs. Lester, Gray, Kazmir, Samardzija

That could be a fun ALCS

And the A's will still lose to the Tigers like always and the Tigers will lose to the Cardinals or the f**king Giants.

Walker not involved. Nothing else involving SEA beyond Franklin and Jackson.

There are surely MiLB guys involved, even if not of great consequence.

David Cameron ‏@DCameronFG 5m

David Price is very good. David Price, at $20 million next year? No one was giving up the farm for that.

If your argument is that “David Price is awesome and Drew Smyly is not”, you need to factor in contracts. Price’s isn’t great.

That is terrible. Just hold onto him for the rest of the season and try in the off-season and or again at next years deadline. Brutual by Rays; Great move by Tigers.

Agreed. They didn't have to make the trade now.

I'm with Dave Cameron. You get a really good young starting pitcher as well as an undervalued middle infielder who has already been okay in the major leagues, and you get out from under ~$25M of salary commitments

The value in the trade went to the Mariners. What a steal they got.

A clown trade for Tampa - pitiful, really.

I don't understand Cameron suggesting Price is overpaid at $20 mill...he really isn't.

LOL. Price @ 20M is just fine. It isn't like it is 20M for 5 years. This is so laughable how stupid some of this statisticians have gotten. I almost wish Kenny was back in charge the way some teams have started to completely overvalue prospects, etc.

There just aren't a bunch of teams that can take on that salary, especially if they have to gut their system just for the right to pay it and then see the guy walk away a year and a half later

Tigers didn't gut themselves at all to get Price. If you are a legit contender, you can afford Price and even ride him out now and put him up for sale again in the off-season if you really wanted to. The, oh his production is close to 20M so you shouldn't give up anything for him is nonsense. It isn't like you can just find a guy like that and offer him a one year contract. It just means you shouldn't get a premium, above his already stellar production, to get him.

If anything, I would have expected Cameron to say Price is well worth it at $20 million. He is. He's a 5 WAR pitcher. That's worth at least $25 million on a one year contract.

But I think his point is this: Price at $20 million is a lot of money, regardless of how much money you have or how valuable he actually is. Paying him that money AND giving up 6 years of control of good prospects is not worth it.

You also have to take into account that the Rays aren't exactly rich. $20 million is like 1/4 of their payroll.

Where was this logic then when the Tigers convinced Texas to take Prince and give them Kinsler?

That was an absolute heist by Dombrowski. One of the most lopsided trades in years, even with the Tigers eating however much money they ate.

No doubt. Finding someone to take the contract, with all of the other massive deals they have on their books, was huge.
