Capn12
Let's not make out like Q is the victim totally, either. You CAN'T continue to labor through 5 innings, with a s***ty bullpen, and wonder why you aren't getting wins. 116 pitches for 15 outs is abysmal, but seems to be the norm for Quintana. BigHurt3515
This bullpen plus Beckham and Dunn makes this team look horrible. Why we haven't replaced Beckham with just about anyone else is beyond me. Semien for Beckham Wilkins for Dunn Bullpen is pretty much unfixable at this point

CaliSoxFanViaSWside
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 02:07 PM) The sad thing is there is absolutely no help coming from the minors, with regards to the bullpen, unless it's Rodon. Lack of pitching depth throughout the system has killed the Sox this year. You'll know when things are hopeless if they bring up Nestor Molina. flavum
Before today, Quintana was on pace to make 33 starts and 206 innings. Would 215-220 be better, yeah. But he takes the ball and does the most he can with what he has.

Lack of pitching depth throughout the system has killed the Sox this year. I love Ben Brewster, who was just named our prospect of the month. He's already pitched at 3 levels since being drafted. Wouldn't be shocked to see him pitch at 1 or 2 more this year and make the club next year.

BigHurt3515
QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:21 PM) Dunn is 22nd in the AL in OPS. Ahead of Pujols, Donaldson, Cespedes, Longoria and Jacoby Ellsbury. How is he the problem? Did you just carry this over from the offseason? He is still horrible.. .227 with 44 RBIs? what kind of DH/1B is that?

whitesoxfan99
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2014 -> 04:09 PM) True, but his defense probably added 30 pitches or so to his count today. He would have easily gone 6 innings today if it wasn't for the defense behind him. About the only thing left for Q to improve on is going a little deeper into games but he is still on pace to throw over 200 innings again this year and he's averaging over 6 innings a start so it isn't like pitching deep into games has been a huge problem for him. Congratulations on citing possibly the two worst stats to evaluate a hitter by. Remember, Dunn typically bats behind a guy that has driven in 83 with 31 homers. There's not a whole lot of RBI opportunities left after Abreu bats.
