Surkamp optioned.

I would imagine that Lindstrom may be coming back but that leaves no LHP in the bullpen.

Colleen Kane ‏@ChiTribKane 3m

White Sox option Eric Surkamp to AAA Charlotte to make room for Matt Lindstrom's return Tuesday. Sox will go without lefty in pen.

Good. He was horrific.

However, think about it ... how embarrassing for Mr. Hahn. This has to be the first time in the modern era (since the start of the over-use of bullpens regarding matchups from the sixth inning on) that a team has had absolutely no lefty in the pen. You've got to have some lefties for gosh sakes. Can't they bring up some hack who can throw from the left side to take his turn?

The 2nd best team in baseball doesn't have a single lefty in the bullpen.

I was hoping he would be gone when I got home from work tonight... And nope

They can't just DFA him. Too embarrassing for everybody involved. He'll quietly be done as a Sox player this offseason. This is Paulie's farewell tour, as well as Dunn's and Gordon's. Three familiar faces to be gone next season. Probably DeAza as well. Maybe Viciedo.

To start Rodon's clock for Robin Ventura September mop-up ball would be ridiculous. He is precisely the player who should not be rushed. and you certainly don't waste his time as a bullpen pitcher.

Surkamp is a strange send-back, with no other lefty available.

unless it was a wink wink deal with his camp for the contract to be sign.

If they plan on Rodon being on the opening day roster next year, his service time from this year means nothing.

Put Danks in the pen.

And who do you want to start in his place?

That's not exactly the kind of thing that's going to help you find a trade partner. The Giants did it with Zito when they had no other options, but they still had to carry his contract until the bitter end, although at some point he improved enough he could come back semi-effectively as a starter.

There is value in getting Rodon used to how a major leaguer lives: the travel, the way they prepare for games, training facilities and staff, the whole lifestyle. Getting that out of the way now would help him be more comfortable next year when things matter and he'll need to focus on his pitching. If he's physically ready, calling him up now or in 3 weeks would be beneficial.

Call up Wilkins and put Dunn in the pen until Lindstrom comes back.

1) Wilkins can't be any worse than Dunn hitting

2) Dunn can't be any worse than Surkamp pitching.

3) The fans get some entertainment watching the Big Donkey pitch.
