Makes zero sense. Must have been no one was being aggressive in blocking a potential trade with Mets? Clearly Mets weren't going to just let him go.

some team can claim him, then they would have to work out a trade with the mets, if no agreement

then the mets could withdraw him. is that correct?

If it is correct maybe the asking price is too much.

Yes, however the asking price shouldn't play into whether or not the guy is claimed on waivers, only whether or not the trade could be concluded afterwards.

Once he has cleared waivers he could be traded to your biggest rival, whomever your team is, and that could cost you a playoff birth. The right strategy for every team in the playoff hunt would be to claim guys who you'd be willing to accept if they were given to you in order to at least keep them from your opposition.

We do always hear about how teams try to "Sneak" guys through waivers, or whatever that means. Perhaps it happened here.

Teams only get so many waiver claims a day. If teams are doing whole sale dumps during that time, there is a good chance they are targeting "realistic" players instead of pie in the sky types.

For example, a team wouldn't even waste a claim on Chris Sale or Jose Abreu because they know there is zero chance the Sox trade them. Maybe instead they claim a guy like Zach Putnam or Hector Noesi because they might be able to be traded for.
