greg775
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 06:59 PM) You seem to know Adam intimately. Do you know what it is about him that makes him so destructive to a team's morale that they'd want no part of him? No, I simply meant performance issues. Let's say they acquire him and he goes into a strikeout binge and a 1-for-24 thing with 17 strikeouts. That's not exactly anything but buzzkill. I'm just saying if I"m a GM I don't risk it with my first place team.
caulfield12
http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting/_/sor...outs/order/true I can just see having BJ Upton and Ryan Howard for next season. Maybe Alvarez. Greg will have a coronary, as we already have Flowers right up there with the league K leaders per at-bat as well.

I'm just saying if I"m a GM I don't risk it with my first place team. I think Mike Trout has done exactly this at one point this year. 0 for his last 19 with 7 K's. Also had a 16/64 (.250) stretch with 22 K's and only 2 homers. DFA time. Edited August 18, 2014 by caulfield12
witesoxfan
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 02:16 PM) Well, if they have Chris Davis why do they want Adam Dunn? Are they going to release Davis? I just simply cannot see a GM sticking his neck out to acquire Adam Dunn, whose tenure in Chicago has been a disaster. If I'm wrong I'll be proven wrong. Chris Davis has been terrible this year, as I just pointed out. A 1-24 is not going to kill them. He's also not very damn likely to do that and you know it. He's just as likely to go 12-24 with 4 homers. You do not like Adam Dunn. We realize this. You can also look at things objectively.
Eminor3rd
QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 01:55 PM) Are you trolling, or does the hate cloud your mind THAT much that you think Adam Dunn has the ability to destroy an entire team's offense? You need to use more logic and less emotion when you think. Don't you remember his Alex Rios hatred? He was having a 3 fWAR season with us and greg was convinced he was actually hurting the team because he didn't like his "devil-may-care" facial expressions. Soxfest
QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 01:56 PM) The team moral boost caused by a HR binge is peanuts compared to the demoralizing effect an adam dunn strikeout binge has on a team. It has the ability to take a team from 1st to last. In only 30 days these are professionals first to last because Dunn strikes out I do not think so. greg775
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 07:48 PM) Don't you remember his Alex Rios hatred? He was having a 3 fWAR season with us and greg was convinced he was actually hurting the team because he didn't like his "devil-may-care" facial expressions. It had nothing to do with facial expressions. I didn't even see any of those from my mlb.com. I despised him as a player. But since he's left I've said nothing bad about him. The Dunn talk disturbs me. Don't you think if anybody wanted him he'd be gone by now? Hahn is not a dummy. He also works for an owner who doesn't like paying guys to play for other teams apparently. No other team wants Dunn on the payroll, thus good luck to him finding work next year.
Quin
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 7, 2013 -> 10:07 PM) I kind of question Rios in TWTW department. I have no proof, of course. The eye test tells me he's a decent ballplayer whose TWTW can be questioned. If I'm wrong, behead me. I think he screams mediocre to good ballplayer, kind of like Jose Guillen near the end of Jose's career. Greg is technically correct. He was cool with Rios' face, he was not cool with Rios' TWTW stats.

I think I responded in a thread where somebody wanted to consider re-acquiring Rios when the Sox looked like a contender. I don't think I was vicious. He will easily find work next year if he wants to play. At a minimum he could be the LH half of a DH platoon. Or, as someone pointed out in another thread, there are several teams getting no production out of their DH positions, and Dunn would be a nice upgrade for them. The only part of your post that makes sense is saying that the Sox don't like paying players to play with another team. That might be the only reason Dunn hasn't been traded. I'm sure there was interest from some teams, but obviously there wasn't a good enough deal proposed.
cabiness42
What if Dunn got traded to Kansas City and then hit the clinching HR in the World Series? Would greg's head explode?

I'm sure there was interest from some teams, but obviously there wasn't a good enough deal proposed. That part isn't true either. There is a long list of guys that Reinsdorf has paid to go away. Some even this year: Scott Downs, Jeff Keppinger, Carlos Boozer, Eddie Robinson, and countless others. This is just not true but for some reason a large segment of this city and fan base think it is. Yes, that would suffice. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/p...id=luetge001luc He was, coincidentally or not, drafted by the Sox both in 2005 (31st round) and in 2006 (18th round).
