Birmingham Barons ‏@BhamBarons 22s

ROSTER MOVE: 2013 1st rounder & Tuscaloosa native @TimAnderson7 has been promoted from @WSDashBaseball to Birmingham.

Interesting. I like it. They feel comfortable with Anderson. They also feel comfortable with Rondon with the Dash.

I think this is 100% about making Anderson eligible for the Fall League.

Do players have to play a certain amount of games with AA or AAA to be eligible for that team? If not, then I can see Lopez getting the spot for under AA.

And then there's this from the BA hot sheet chat:

http://www.baseballamerica.com/chat/?1408725165

Aaron Dorman (Casino Queen): Looking back, who was the most exciting MILB player you saw play this year?

Josh Norris: This is a great question, and I've certainly seen a great deal of games and players this year between college, showcases and the minors. Joey Gallo was certainly up there because of his sheer raw power, but I knew what to expect going in. With that in mind, I'll say Tim Anderson. I'd only seen him a little before, but he put on a show earlier this year at Winston-Salem hitting balls with authority to all sectors, and showing athleticism in the field and on the bases. He's rehabbing an a fractured wrist right now, but should be back if the Dash make the playoffs and could head to the Arizona Fall League.

Straight of the Barons hot press...

http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=2...47&sid=t247

"The Barons and Chicago White Sox have announced that 2013 First-Round Pick Tim Anderson has been promoted to Birmingham from Class A Winston-Salem. Anderson will be making his Double-A debut as the Barons take on the Mississippi Braves at Trustmark Park.

Anderson, 21, was selected by the White Sox with the 17th overall selection in last year's First-Year Player Draft out of East Central Community College where he led the nation with a .495 average and ranked second with 41 stolen bases as a sophomore in 2013. A native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Anderson signed a letter of intent at the University of Alabama-Birmingham prior to being signed by Chicago.

In 68 games with the Dash this season, Anderson hit .297 (85-for-286) with six home runs, 18 doubles, seven triples, 48 runs scored, 31 RBI and 10 stolen bases. He was also named to the 2014 Carolina League midseason All-Star Team. He was placed on the disabled list on June 27 after suffering a fractured right wrist and was activated today after making six rehab starts with the Arizona League White Sox where he hit .235 (4-for-17) with two home runs. At the time of his injury, Anderson ranked eighth in the Carolina League in batting.

Anderson entered the 2014 season ranked by Baseball America as the No. 3 Prospect in the White Sox organization while MLB.com rated him as the organization's No. 2 Prospect in their updated July 28th rankings. "

Not really, in order for a player to be assigned to AFL without losing the one slot for below AA player each team is entitled to, the player has be playing for AA or above as of Aug 1st.

Though I think this move is a no brainier as a domino effect of Micah shut down and Sanchez promoted.

thanks goes to everyone who posted updates on Anderson.

any new update on his defense?

Not good. 31 errors in 67 games this year. His bat is definitely ahead of his glove. He's plenty young enough to improve though.

Most seem to think that the talent is there for Anderson to be an adequate or even good shortstop, but he shows little refinement to make plays consistently at this point. It's not uncommon for young players to take huge leaps and bounds in terms of cutting errors back and playing good defense, but it's certainly a guilty until proven innocent proposition
