Reds Pitchers Available

Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal · 38m

Sources: #Reds’ Latos, Leake went on revocable waivers yesterday. Both likely to be claimed, neither figures to be traded.

#Reds expected to trade at least one starting pitcher this off-season, when they can negotiate with all teams, not just a claiming club.

I mentioned earlier in another thread about the off season and I thought of a trade to acquire Bruce and Marshall. I really think the Reds might need to rebuild and will explore their options to build around some guys.

Even though I'd like to acquire a pitcher through free agency (Shields, my #1 target) and acquire a bat through trade, this does give Hahn options.

White Sox should put in claims for both. They won't make it out of the NL though and will most likely get pulled back.

Latos would be a amazing get if the Sox could go for him.

One of the MI prospects Semien/Johnson/Sanchez + one of Danish/Montas/Adams + Beck/EJ/Bassitt? Would that even suffice? Toss in Hawkins or Thompson as sweetener?

Probably the first 2 parts (maybe 2 SP) and Hawkins? Or Davidson if they end ip moving Votto some how (just speculation on my part. No real rumor)

Thats an awful lot to give up for a guy coming of a mediocre year and headed to free agency.

Didn't know he's headed to FA. Knew he was injured this year, though he has still pitched well. Still, giving up one of Semien/Sanchez/Johnson + an arm (maybe not one of Adams, Montas, Danish) and a sweetener wouldn't be a problem to me.

R.A. Dickey was placed on waivers. He would make sense in that his salary isn't going to kill you ($12M followed by a $12M option) he would be a solid inning eating RHP that could hold down a spot in rotation until either Beck, Danish, or Johnson are ready to contribute at the ML level. He hasn't been great in Toronto, but it would be one less gap to fill in the offseason.

He will get claimed, I am sure.

While we're hijacking threads....Justin Morneau was placed on waivers then claimed by the Brewers but a deal wasn't done. If they're open to trading him in the offseason, which they seemingly would be, I'd hope the Sox do what they can to get him to the South Side.

He seems to be back to form to an extent just sans the big power. .343/.389/.540 vs RHP this year and for those who wanna bring up playing in Colorado, he's hitting .325/.376/.500 on the road this year.

He's also got a pretty friendly contract. 6.75M next year and a 9M option for 2016. Gimme Morneau, upgrade LF and call it day offensively.

But who are we realistically willing to give up for him? Alexei Ramirez, if Tulo's traded?

Therein lies the problem...for example, would you be willing to give up Anderson or Montas or Danish for him when you could sign someone in the free agent market without giving up that kind of talent?

I kinda doubt he'd cost that much....I am however having a hard time thinking up a deal that'd make sense though, so you do have a point.....

Watching Latos pitch against the Cubs last night had me a bit worried. He was mainly between 88-92 with a pretty over the top curveball. It's just if I want someone throwing 88-92 like Shields, I would take him because of his track record and less of an injury concern with a great change up.

So hopefully Hahn sees that he can acquire a good #2 in the free agency like Shields and address the bullpen and uses trades to acquire more offense.
