QuickJones81
The Cubs get all the hype, but I feel pretty good about our core moving into the future as well. So while they get the attention, would you trade our core for all of the Cubs top prospects? White Sox: Chris Sale Jose Abreu Carlos Rodon Jose Quintana Avisail Garcia Adam Eaton Tim Anderson Frank Montas Spencer Adams Cubs: Kris Bryant Javy Baez Anthony Rizzo Starlin Castro Jorge Soler Addison Russell Arismendy Alcantara Albert Almora CJ Edwards
winninguglyin83
Would not trade because at least 3 Sox guys have actually proven they can deliver in the major leagues.

daggins
I get the feeling this is a silly conversation to have since the Sox core is already starting to be locked in long term and the Cubs core is still very fluid. Probably 1 or 2 of those guys moved this offseason, in addition to a large expenditure of money. Lets check back in a year or so mmkay? elrockinMT
No offense to our fans here but when it comes to the Cubs I just don't care what they do. It's the Sox all the way for me
TheBlackSox8
They can go out and buy it...but the lack of pitching for the cubs core is a huge ?. So by default I'll take the sox. I like the cubs projections...but sox have more proven core players.
fathom
Both are gonna be good in a few years. Arrieta should be added to the list. One thing Cubs have done is put together a solid bullpen, thanks in part due to getting Ramirez and Strop in trades.
Rowand44
Both have a chance to be really good.
Al Lopez's Ghost
The question is future core. With the guys they've called up, plus Kris Bryant, gotta be the Cubs.
DirtySox
Cubs. Easily.
QuickJones81
Posed the same question to Jim Callis. He chose the Cubs. They have some guys who can be really special. We have at least 2 who ARE special. I've always believed one in the hand was worth two in the bush personally.

Lefty putting up those numbers is damn valuable. Kris Bryant is pretty much a can't miss prospect. Soler looks really freaking good. Addison Russel and Schwarber look like studs. Not to mention Castro and Baez... The team is freaking stacked with top tier talents. People need to take off their homer glasses.

The Sox are at least 3 deep with high quality arms in the rotation with not as great position players, but a set that are already producing in the majors. southsider2k5
Here's the thing. If you look at it on a player by player basis, it is harder to argue Cubs. First off, you have to cede pitching to the Sox. Period. Sale and Q are already here, and the Cubs have nothing that will even come close. When Smarj was here, at least you could argue that he ranks somewhere in between Q and Sale. Now? No. Then the Sox have Rodon on the farm, with a ceiling as a pitcher, that is just as high as any hitter the Cubs have. Then if you go over to hitters, the Sox have Abreu, who is in the majors, and hitting like an MVP already. At best, you MIGHT have one of their hitters end up being as good as Abreu. Maybe. Avi probably ranks towards the end of the Cubs big four hitters in terms of ceiling. When you put the package together of what the Sox have here already, and the HUGE advantage they have in cheap pitching, I'm not sure you can say the Cubs have the edge. venom4789
Right now the white sox have easily the best two on the list, with sale being a top pitcher in the league and abreu being a beast. After that the cubs have more talent on paper. While they may have a few soon to be all stars on the list, the lack of pitching really does hurt them a little. If the cubs didnt finish strong last year they would have had the third pick and if they got rodon i would easily give it to them, however that didn't happen. I really want to say its almost a tie, however since i know i am biased towards the white sox, i have to give the cubs a slight edge. Jerksticks
Plus we're gonna add some type of positional badass this winter and maybe a pitcher too. Don't you think Hahn is going to add at least 1 more young, MLB-ready core piece this offseason? +1 more for the sox soon. We have the best pitcher and hitter in the game, arguably. Cubs have what? ron883
Did Rizzo die? People seem to forget he is a legit hitter who is in the majors... He is a legit lefty hitter. Close to the value Abreu brings while on a dirt cheap contract. Castro has a cheap contract. Another player being completely ignored is Arrieta. Soler, Baez, Bryant, Russell, Schwarber, Alcantara... Cubs talent is just filthy. They have tons of cost controller talent. Baez and Soler have low bust probably as far as prospects go. I expect at least one to be a star. thxfrthmmrs
I think some of you are sleeping on Arrieta, Wada, and Hendricks. I think 2 of those 3 could turn out to be quality starters, and all should be very controllable for the foreseeable future. God forbids if they are able to turn Jacob Turner around. Cubs also have a closer who has a chance to be electric in Hector Rondon, who throw 98 mph and has been dominant for the past two months. At the end of the day, I think in terms of potential, it's definitely the Cubs. But potential is a dangerous word in sports. The Sox's "core" is more proven at this point
