Buehrle>Wood
Flavum hates making news threads so I'm gonna do it for him Jordan Strack Got word that Genoa HS Alum, Chris Bassitt, will make his major league debut for the White Sox on Saturday. 2nd_city_saint787
The next Jose Quintana??? Q only had 9 starts in AA before coming to the bigs to stay. Bassitt has had 14 dating back to last year. In those 14 starts he's got an 1.97 ERA with a 73/31 K/BB rate in 82 innings.....Walks are a bit high but maybe Coop can see something he can fix in that regard. Here's a nice fangraphs article from last year... http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/chris-bas...ching-prospect/

Señor Ding-Dong
I guess he's gonna stay on the 40-man then.
Donny Lucy's Avocado Farm
If he pitches well, this probably punches the ticket for Rienzo and Carroll next season. That'd be something, to get that righthanded power arm balance for the rotation without the Sox diving into the deep end of the free agent market. If you'd like to congratulate him, do so here: https://twitter.com/C_Bass419
2nd_city_saint787
QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 01:36 PM) I guess he's gonna stay on the 40-man then. Which takes him out of the AFL correct?? Maybe they give him the extra time he'd get in the AFL at the big league level. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing him get ~5 starts at the major league level....Again, Q only had 8 or 9 starts at AA, so it could happen if he looks good. BlackSox13
I hope he pitches well and the Sox keep him up. There's no shortage of junk in the pen that can be sent down, then move Carroll back into the pen.

Jared Mitchell and Marcus Semien played in the AFL last year, and I'm pretty sure both of those guys were on the 40. Regardless, Bassitt will get this start then likely a handful in September as well.

It'd be nice to not have to rely on them in the rotation, but I'm sure they'll spend next season shuffling between Charlotte and Chicago in a bullpen and spot start role. They are both terrible. I find it hard to believe the Sox have any plans for them other than to make sure better pitchers take both spots on next year's roster. chitownsportsfan
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 02:08 PM) I think those two punched their tickets out of town regardless of what Bassitt does. Especially Rienzo Agree, can't remember the exact quote but Cooper said some pretty frank things about Rienzo and I don't think he's a guy that feel they can work with anymore. Carroll is a AAAA pitcher he should be the longman next year out of the pen IMO. But I would have zero problems with him getting non tendered as well and clearing up a 40 man spot to perhaps take a flier on a Rule 5 guy. NorthSideSox72
Wow, a little surprised here. He has to be added to the 40, which makes it 40 now. And I think (this part I'm not sure of) he needs to stay on there or risk being claimed on waivers. In either case he'd need to be on there to be protected at Rule V time in December. Here is FutureSox's profile on Chris. Even better, Bassitt actually wrote an article for us, back in January. Here is that link.

I'll be absolutely shocked if Bassit posts better numbers for a month than EJ did last September...especially when facing teams that are desperate and hungry for wins like that Tigers' line-up.
