brian310
QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 09:05 PM) for this discussion only and this is an example. would you be willing to add either David Robertson - closer or Andrew Miller - a nice lh rp that the sox need to make the bullpen better. now that price will be a 1-second rounder. I think the cost factor is getting the final pieces now instead of waiting 4-6 yrs is a good trade off. I doubt Miller will get a QO. Robertson probably will too. I wouldn't want them to give up a draft pick for a reliever. Draft pick for starting pitcher or position player? Sure.
southsider2k5
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 08:38 PM) Depending on what starts to shake loose they can also spend some money. First up is figure out who will be on the coaching staff. Is anyone in danger... well besides Joe maybe getting a management job?

LDF
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 4, 2014 -> 04:26 AM) No No giving up draft choices for relief pitchers, esp middle relievers. if I can't convince anyone on 1-seconder rounder for an establish very good rp or a closer in which the sox really need, I will forgo anymore discussion on this particular subject. all you posters are set with your opinions. I respect that. good job. If you could convince everyone that said reliever would be one of the top 2-3 set up guys (like wade Davis or miller or gregerson) or an elite level closer (87.5% or above conversion rate) then most wouldn't have a problem with it...for a second or third rounder that's not the worst tradeoff in the world. The problem is always this years miller is last years uehara...repeatability/consistency and predictability of future performance. LDF
I was reading a article, I believe it might be on miilb.com and Balt site. this journalist was saying about Balt retooling and first order of business would be signing to A Miller - rp. however it also had a snippet of Miller saying that he is a strong union person and he is going to test the free agent market. he wanted to sign for the most. he and his agent does not believe in giving discounts. so much for signing with the white sox. Edit: 10-6-14 well it is now on mlb trade rumors. Edited October 6, 2014 by LDF

Balta1701
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 6, 2014 -> 09:48 AM) Even if he does come back as a coach, I think it would be much more likely to be in Arizona than Chicago. I'm fully expecting him to replace Ventura in a couple seasons, all I asked was for him to take a year off for family to make sure it's what he actually wanted to do, and the previous post says he's going to. I figure if I start typing it years beforehand then when it happens I'll have made my peace with it.
Dick Allen
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2014 -> 10:20 PM) Is anyone in danger... well besides Joe maybe getting a management job? I would think Daryl Boston, since he is the baserunning and OF guy, might have some heat on him. Also, coaching 1B, there are things you tell the baserunner, just in case he forgets...check the OFs, maybe something about a pick off move, how many outs there are, don't get tagged out....not to blame Boston, since guys making millions to play the game should know, but it is apparent they need to be reminded. Maybe he is and they still can't figure it out. But I think if anyone is getting demoted or fired, he would be the prime candidate.
