in the trade that the trade gets cancel??

No. The Marlins are off the hook, I believe. That was worked out before it went through.

If @Ken_Rosenthal report is true that Shields has 5yrs $110m on the table from someone..then he should take it before they change their mind

This could not be further than the truth. My god that is an overpay.

They aren't on the hook for the cash though. The Dodgers are only paying $10M if he is a Marlin. If the Marlins trade him somewhere, then that new team pays the $10M, unless the Marlins send some money over, obviously. Dodgers made a smart move knowing they would pretty much never have to pay that $10M.

This article from Fox sports says differently.

The 34-year-old Haren wants to pitch close to his family in Southern California, and the Marlins knew that when they acquired him in a seven-player deal. He's considering retirement but is working out this winter and preparing to pitch just as he has done in the past.

Haren is under contract for $10 million this year. Even if he's traded again or retires, the Marlins will still receive cash from the Dodgers believed to equal his salary.

This would make for awesome trivia if you have the list.

Some of these guys may be retiring or not sign, and I'm not including Andruw Jones, who I don't if he's still playing in Asia.

Beltre will probably end up being the last one.

Jason Giambi

Latroy Hawkins

Jamey Wright

Bartolo Colon

Torii Hunter

David Ortiz

Carlos Beltran

Adrian Beltre

Bruce Chen

Alex Gonzalez

AJ Pierzynski

D-Backs still interested in James Shields. GM Dave Stewart on why Shields likes what the org is doing (emphasis mine): "I think James is a throwback guy by the way he goes about his business and the innings he pitches. I think the fact that Tony (La Russa) is here and that we have more baseball people - he probably sees us as a true baseball team vs. some of the other teams out here that are geared more towards analytics and those type of things."

So true baseball teams restrict players' diets?

Gattis is now an Astro.

"The Astros have reportedly agreed to acquire Braves catcher/outfielder Evan Gattis. In return, Atlanta will acquire a trio of prospects: righties Michael Foltynewicz and Andrew Thurman as well as third baseman Rio Ruiz."

Houston is having a nice off season so far. They just might put the Rangers in the ALW cellar this year.

Most pro teams have a dietary plan for their athletes. Most colleges as well. AZ was just a little overboard in the way they reinforced it.

I'm sure Billy Beane must be laughing at that one, as they were teammates in Oakland (briefly).

Andrew Freidman out in LA must be getting a chuckle, and AJ Preller out in SD, too.

I'm starting to think quite a few people around baseball are going to be very happy to see LaRussa fall flat on his face.

Ruh roh, Houston may have a problem...

"5:18pm: Drellich also adds that the biggest concerns heading into Gattis’ physical are his back and right knee, and the concern is fairly significant. While Drellich’s previous report that we may not yet know the identity of all players in the deal created a wide range of speculation, he now adds that B.J. Upton is not in the deal. Astros righty Vincent Velasquez was discussed, however Drellich notes that Velasquez has his own health issues "

Sounds like the deal is on hold until the results of Gattis' physical are known. Also notes that the Rangers could come into play if the Astros deal falls through.
