shysocks
QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 01:58 PM) Couldn't be that much, right? Good-not-great starter with two more years of cheap control before free agency. Although I guess that pretty well described Samardzija at the time of that trade. Cashner has already experienced some significant arm and shoulder injuries though, So I highly doubt he will be in the same money as JS

Pretty amazing Cervelli has played professional baseball for 10 years, and he has just over 2000 PAs. He doesn't play a lot.

Chisoxfn
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 01:03 PM) We have not worked him out, or visited him personally. Technically we never worked out Iguchi either. Lot more money hear but maybe the Sox layed low and already had a lot of info from when they scouted Abreu or maybe KW or Hahn went all Jerry Krause and wore costumes and were actually in attendance at workouts. Heck, maybe they had a workout with Tomas and it was never reported. Again, not saying that is the case, but it happens more then we think where a team or two have interactions with players that weren't reported until after the guy ends up signing with said team. I'd put odds low but I wouldn't put it past an organization with Kenny as the president.

caulfield12
The Tigers must be desperate for someone who can cover CF to replace Austin Jackson defensively. That became a huge black hole for them in the last two months, outfield defense. http://www.freep.com/story/sports/mlb/tige...trade/18970609/ This nicely summarizes why the Tigers made the move, the limitations of Gose (against LHP, only .201), the fact that the prospect wasn't going to help them THIS year and the final scary possibility of them adding Melky Cabrera to give them a still quite affordable outfield of JD Martinez, Davis/Gose and Melky Cabrera. Apparently they're also considering trading Avila, whose father I'm pretty sure is still asst. GM to DD. http://www.freep.com/story/sports/mlb/tige...avila/18960851/ Good god, it would be crazy if they signed Russell Martin, too. While they would likely be history after 2016, that would come close to narrowing the White Sox window down to just 2017 and 2018 (if they can get enough starting pitching...and they still have Price this season, Verlander, Anibal Sanchez and Porcello...and of course a lot comes down to the health of those guys...losing Scherzer/Smyly and eventually Price hurts a LOT). Well, if he's getting that before he reaches FA then fair trade. He did get the "brush with the end of career" hit in the face last year. BlackSox13
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 09:57 PM) I wonder if that deal would include a no-trade clause. Per mlbtr... 9:36am: Heyman reports that the two sides are very serious about getting a deal done, suggesting that it could end up being for a whopping 13 years. The two sides are said to be on the same page regarding money, Heyman writes, but two non-monetary issues still need to be worked out: a no-trade clause and a potential opt-out clause midway through the deal. One source characterized the negotiations as being on the 10-yard line. 8:40am: ESPN’s Buster Olney hears that one possibility that has been discussed is a 12-year, $325MM contract (ESPN Insider required and recommended). Olney also wonders how the frightening, season-ending injury to Stanton has affected his perspective and influenced his willingness to accept a deal like this. As Olney notes, Stanton acknowledged after the injury that had the fastball which struck his face hit him just millimeters in a different direction, his injury could have been career-threatening.
