southsider2k5
Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan 33m Adam Eaton not in lineup because of death in family. Return at some point tonight is possible. Michael Taylor (knee) probably unavailable.
southsider2k5
Colleen Kane @ChiTribKane 7m White Sox outfielder Michael Taylor has a right knee injury. MRI shows no tear but team was looking at draining fluids from it. Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 1m Adam Eaton could rejoin the team in time for tonight's game. southsider2k5
Tyler Flowers is now tied for the team lead in homers since August 1, with Dayan Viciedo.
caulfield12
Bassit escapes from trouble early....Flowers with homer #15, solidifying his starting spot for 2015. Royals escape bases loaded, no out situation in 1st in CLE and have 1-0 lead heading into the 2nd. TOR all over Seattle early, 4-1. Five teams now within 4 1/2 games of each other, stretching from DET to CLE.
caulfield12
Ooops. Didn't see this one up here at the top of the page. Merge. Since I've never started a game thread ever, better to continue that non-tradition.
CaliSoxFanViaSWside
2-0 Sox on Sanchez double , Flowers HR both to the the LCF gap . Also followed by a Sierra double down the LF line but an Alexei pop out to SS ended the inning.
CaliSoxFanViaSWside
Sierra hitting near .280 with the Sox , better on D, faster and probably an even stronger arm than Dayan. Viciedo should be on Hahn's attempt to trade list. Bassitt 1-2-3 in the second. Edit: Actually .283 with the Sox Edited September 22, 2014 by CaliSoxFanViaSWside
caulfield12
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 22, 2014 -> 05:45 PM) Sierra hitting near .280 with the Sox , better on D, faster and probably an even stronger arm than Dayan. Viciedo should be on Hahn's attempt to trade list. Bassitt 1-2-3 in the second. Edit: Actually .283 with the Sox Two separate issues. Sierra is NOT an option to be a starting OFer for the White Sox IMO, nor should he be, at least if we're serious about contending. In order to trade Dayan, you're going to have to tender him/go through salary arbitration, and that will make him even more expensive and harder to deal, so it's a bit of a Catch-22. Agree about him not starting. Would probably make a decent platoon with a good left handed bat (Matt Joyce?). Sierra definitely deserves to be on the roster over Danks though
caulfield12
Joyce is another good bounceback candidate, along with Billy Butler. Plus he fits the LH box to check off. Someone else mentioned LaRoche with the Nationals, if Zimmerman's forced to 1B.
caulfield12
Seems like Bassitt's pitching himself onto the 2015 roster as either the long man, fifth starter or set-up guy (in the current Daniel Webb spot). Wouldn't be surprised to see the Indians challenge the Tigers next year because of Kluber, Carrasco, Salazar and Bauer...one more veteran starter and a couple of bats and they're very dangerous. Need a bounceback from Kipnis, though. With Brantley, Santana, Kipnis, Gomes, Chisenhall, that's a pretty solid core of hitters, too. Baez 84 K's in 188 AB's. Ouch. Soler still looking good. Alcantara=Semien. Edited September 23, 2014 by caulfield12

I actually mentioned LaRoche in the offseason post haha I thought Seth Smith would have been a solid option this offseason to be a guy to DH and play some of the corner outfield to give guys rest at DH but then he signed an extension. southsider2k5
Great hitting team? Check Team in contention needing a win? Check Really nice night by the Hound, and one that can't be poo-poo'd because it is against a bad team.
southsider2k5
There is not a doubt in my mind that both Viciedo and De Aza would have screwed up that line drive catch that Sierra just made in LF.
caulfield12
TCU first rounder Finnegan has been huge for the Royals. He essentially replaced Scott Downs in their pecking order down the stretch.

thxfrthmmrs
Pretty incredible 2 months for Chris Bassitt. He went from injured in the minors to rehabbing in the Rookies League to making ML debut and now shutting down one of the best offenses. He deserves a chance to battle for the 5th spot next ST. Should be very interesting to see if anybody gives him multi years. He's a man in a home run hitter's body who does not hit home runs. That said I wouldn't mind seeing him as the Sox DH. It'd be unwise to sign him 4-6 years however. Doing that is Dunn-like. Ouch. Edited September 23, 2014 by greg775

greg775
Sox do the Royals a huge favor. I have one question ... Is Bassitt for real? And why isn't Hawk calling him 'The Hound' like somebody created on this board.
winninguglyin83
Wheels would have to totally fall off not to finish plus-10 over last season. not what anybody wanted in April, but it's a step in the right direction and you can see more pieces of the puzzle being filled in.
