Avi had a tough night at the plate (and on the bases) but aquitted himself well in RF. Sanchez continues to play an elite 2B. He makes hard plays looks easy. He has the range Gordon can only dream about and his hands are just as good if not better from what I've seen. Rarely juggles or bobbles a ball.

 

I like what I am seeing this September. Young guys are coming in and holding their own and most of the core pieces are playing well. Certainly a much improved team entering the offseason than last season.

Speaking of defense, I heard an inning on satellite, and the Tigers announcers were raving about Semien's D at 3rd.

Just looking at MLB.com, they have highlights on D from both of them.

He had a couple of plays that you thought ok maybe it's a close play and he got em both by 3-4 feet at first. He is very quick to the ball.

Just watched the highlights. Man, Bassitt looked good. Had a bad ass curve ball, a good tight slider and the fastball looked like it had some decent sink. Anyone think he has a chance at making the rotation in 2015? Just asking is all because I really don't know.

After watching Erik Johnson down the stretch in 2013 and then completely destructing in 2014, I'm not going to believe in any rookie pitcher unless they can produce over at least 3-4 months of starts...and, even then, they'll probably run out of gas in August/September.

Wow, just looked up Johnson's AAA numbers this year: 6.73 ERA and a 1.8 WHIP. WTF happened to him?

Johnson is absolutely in the anomaly category. His numbers say a lot but don't tell the whole story. Erik just plain lost his stuff and you don't see that often from a youngster.

He's got to be the leader in the clubhouse for the spot right now, especially after proving he can pitch well against the Tigers down the stretch.

 

He provides the perfect excuse to hold back Rodon until June, if nothing else.

 

Now, of course if they add a veteran 3/4 guy (see Santana/Garza/Jimenez discussion), 2 relievers and at LEAST one LF/DH bat and probably two, then Bassitt's the long man or in Charlotte, although he could still figure into the set-up equation.

 

In fact, that seemed to work wonders for Carlos Carrasco this year when he started off the year so terribly his first four starts. It forced him to pitch out of the stretch more often and simplify/clean up his mechanical issues.

I can see Bassitt getting a few months next year and then when Rodon is ready, they'll either demote him or try to ship Danks.

 

I'd love to see EJ bounce back and then there are three decent options with Bassitt, Johnson and Beck to hold down the fort.

It will be exciting having Rodon, Bassitt, Beck, and Johnson all starting at Charlotte. Danish and Montas with both be at Birmingham with Hawkins, Anderson and the rest of the crew. Luis Martinez, Jace Fry, and Spencer Adams will all be at either Kannapolis or Winston Salem. I left some guys out too but the Sox haven't had this much legit starting pitching in ages in the system.

Yes, perfect candidate for long man in the pen. He can eat innings, is decent first time through the order, and he's not really a prospect so you don't stunt his growth.
