In general, outside of two hot stretches, weren't they a sub .500 team?

After the Sox beat them on July 21, they were 48-50, then they went on a 24-6 run. They finished the season 17-17.

Reminds me of 2010 when we were unbeatable for about a 30 game stretch. We were pretty mediocre outside of that.

Balta1701
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 04:48 PM) Phil Rogers @philgrogers 2h2 hours ago The 6 previous teams that have swept a best-of-7 LCS have gone 6-22 in WS games ... There's a trend that screams good things for NL champ. Why would that possibly be the case? Too long of a layoff is the only thing I can guess that actually matters on the baseball field, the only other possible reason would be "28 games in baseball is a very small sample and you're finding something totally not predictive of anything". The Ginger Kid
They came back against Oakland, but were they ever down against LAA? They seem to grab a lead and refuse to give it up. Winning so many close games. Not sure how the Giants match up pitching wise, but the home field advantage for KC will be big. Two WC teams in the WS. Kyyle23
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 16, 2014 -> 04:36 PM) Why would that possibly be the case? Too long of a layoff is the only thing I can guess that actually matters on the baseball field, the only other possible reason would be "28 games in baseball is a very small sample and you're finding something totally not predictive of anything". I wanted to say that this just doesn't seem like something you would want to call a trend, considering that the teams are different year to year and there are so many variables in each series. I certainly wouldn't want to put money against the Royals because of this "trend"
LittleHurt05
I most likely would play the sample size card, but I could see more time off affecting hitters timing. It might be more useful to compare how their hitting and run scoring was affected vs how their pitching changed.
