Would you guys go after Lester? I know he's another lefty but he doesn't cost a draft pick and does a good playoff history. What he will get on the open market is scary what some numbers are being thrown out there, but if you were GM, would you bring in Lester? If yes, on what terms, if no, why not? Discuss. I mean I think that literally ALL of them have turned out bad so far. You can argue maybe that Sabathia's current flaming disaster was worth the production up front, but still. I feel like recruiting doesn't matter much with top free agents in baseball. Maybe with older guys looking for short deals, but the top guys get such big offers , money talks. Yuck. Perfect candidate for regression coming back to the AL in an increasily-difficult division. We'd spend $10-15 million to get, what, 2 more wins (arguably) when we already saw the fallacy of this with Ubaldo Jimenez...Santana's not going to move the meter enough to put us over the top, and he might not even pitch any better than Noesi/Bassitt (I do feel comfortable stating that he would outperform Carroll, though). You're going to get a LOT more bang for you buck when you make bigger upgrades in the LF/DH slots. That's when you look very closely at upgrading the final starting spot, assuming Rodon's looking like a killer. In the final opinion, since we wouldn't be likely to sign Santana for more than one year, it's kind of pointless. We can find more inexpensive "filler" in another throwaway season like the Cubs have consistently been able to find and leverage for trade. Santana's numbers would not translate over to the AL and especially at US Cellular. Didn't we talk enough last winter about Santana? Good grief was that idea beaten to death! Anyway.
