BlackSox13
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 03:45 PM) There was a bunch actually. The initial reaction was a negative one. Then several posters reminded everyone how much of a regression candidate Santiago was and the publications went to war for Hahn. I wasn't sure about how many but I'm pretty sure you're right, there was plenty of bad reactions. To me, I thought the Sox did well considering Santiago was mostly a two pitch pitcher with a show me kind of slider and had a heck of a time staying in the strike zone. I think at one point towards the end of the 2013 season he managed to piss of Coop. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 03:54 PM) Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN 9m9 minutes ago Mets would seem like a perfect match on paper for possible Alexei Ramirez deal, given their surplus of pitching and CHW needs. I'm not against this depending on the return but who the hell plays SS? The idea of Semien or Sanchez playing SS is very unsettling. I suppose the Sox could sign Drew? Hanley? Lowrie? BlackSox13
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 04:03 PM) I think if the Mets were willing to trade Wheeler for Ramirez, I'd have a really, really hard time turning it down. I understand the value of Ramirez and that he remains a fairly good player, but you cut $10 mill in salary and add like 5 years of control to the rotation. Same here. Yesterday I was watching highlights of Wheeler and salivating. When he's on, oh s*** is he filthy!
Dunt
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 05:10 PM) Mets are going after Tulo now. Gonna be way too expensive for them, I still think they go after Alexei

Baron
I've been discussing this with Met fans all day. They dont seem to realize it's going to take one of their top 4 for Alexei. Sorry it just is. Go find me a player with his health and production/value at SS that's available then give me a call. Bob Sacamano
I would love to get one of their best young starters, Kevin Plawecki, and they could send Flores over for Alexei.

"Due diligence" are the words that stuck out the most when I read the rumor at MLBTR. There's no doubt that Tulo would cost plenty more than Alexei. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 10, 2014 -> 04:26 PM) Maybe Asdrubal Cabrera? Sign him to a 3-4 year deal and flip him when Anderson is ready. I'm not very high on Cabrera's bat to be honest. I'd prefer Lowrie, doesn't strike out much and can draw some walks too.
2nd_city_saint787
This Jung-Ho Kang fellow sounds rather interesting as a replacement at SS. If the Mets offered up Wheeler I couldn't say no. A rotation at midseason and beyond that features Sale-Q-Wheeler-Rodon is young and exciting.

caulfield12
Semien MIGHT be "okay." I don't think anyone really wants to see Leury Garcia out there for 140-150 games in 2015. Sanchez would be better defensively than Semien but has a limited offensive upside and profiles more like Eduardo Escobar, a supersub/utility guy. Then you have Saladino coming off TJ surgery, so no way he could be counted on at SS.

Too bad we can't take the switch hitting/ batting average from Sanchez, Garcia's speed/ defense, Semiens eye/ power and put it all together for a pretty damn good young SS. We need those two kids from the movie Weird Science. If the Sox were to trade Alexei, I wouldn't mind seeing them try to sign Jed Lowrie who's reportedly looking for a salary in the same range as Alexei. SS- 256 games 2B- 106 games 3B- 90 games He hasn't played it a lot at the major league level because Lexi is a robot who rarely gets a day off. nickofypres
I would want more than Montero for Alexei. I would hope for at least Montero, and Plawecki. Of course you would hope for a Wheeler, or a Syndergaard too. Edited November 11, 2014 by woods of ypres
nickofypres
Montero would be a good return given his age (24), contract status (under control until 2021), and is a RH starter. Don't get me wrong here. Maybe I am just overvaluing my own player, but I would still like the Mets to throw in something else if they were to make a deal. Preferably something that would fill another void like C (Plawlecki) since he is blocked by Travis D'Arnaud anyway. GGajewski18
I went over to the Mets board to talk about Alexei. I told them that obviously that the Sox hold Alexei more valuable than the Mets so the asking price is going to be high. I told them that the asking price would probably start with Montero and Plawecki, and add a lottery ticket prospect. 2 members responded to me and said no chance they give all that up for Alexei. I even saw a proposal of Alexei and Avisail for Montero and Ceccini....
