Mets/LAD/NYy interested in Alexei, according to Levine

Yeah no chance on Harvey.

Just a thought, if the Mets are set in stone on making the Mets having Montero the center piece of a Ramirez trade.

Would Montero, Molina and Reynolds be too much for Alexei? My reason behind Reynolds is that he could hit, but I'm not sure if he can play a good SS though. This would still make Semien/Sanchez expendable for trade also.

I'd expect this deal to be done soon. Mets are stuck.

I personally don't expect a move made between these two. The Sox don't want to move Ramirez but understand they can. There are more alternatives both on the trade and free agent market to use at SS for the Mets so, while they likely wouldn't get a great defensive shortstop, they could still find someone worthwhile. Perhaps Stephen Drew or Asdrubal Cabrera fit the bill for them, or perhaps they go nuts and bring in Hanley Ramirez. There are plenty of options out there.

How are they stuck? We got 4 and a half months until the season starts..

You guys had me doing a double take there, thought there was a multiple personality argument going on

I don't think they're getting Hanley and it seems like they really want Alexei and is their best bet. They're not trading for Tulo either. Ok maybe not stuck so to speak but he's their best bet IMO.

Yeah I don't see them signing a Lowrie or Cabrera type either. They just surrendered their first round pick for 2 years of Cuddyer. They want to be competitive, possibly win soon.

There's no way the Mets are going to sign Hanley to play SS, not with Wright at 3B.

Of course, Wright's also been on the decline, but I don't think Ramirez is an everyday SS, period. And getting him with the assumption Wright will be injured is a bit much, because then you're blocking Wright when he returns.

As long as A. Cabrera, Lowrie and Drew are out there....maybe Marco Scutaro if he's healthy...the Mets aren't going to be forced to do something, not like the Yankees who have to make a big splash.

And the Dodgers can always use Dee Gordon there (not to mention the two Cuban middle infielders they signed for a bit of coin).

the mets need a SS for 1 or 2 yrs they have a really good one developing in the minors.

Syndergaard/Wheeler are top dollar for Alexei. Harvey won't happen.

I sure hope the Mets think Syndergaard had a down year. I'll take those PCL stats and have Syndergaard become our fourth #1/#2 type. It'd be very tough for me to want to trade Alexei but Syndergaard would do it. Again, despite all these rumors this week, I really doubt the Sox trade Alexei.

I understand everyone's concern about dealing Ramirez but if they can snag Syndergaard or Wheeler they have to make the trade. While I disagree with the premise of their Cuddyer move, I don't think that Sandy Alderson is an idiot. Cuddyer isn't going to be the only thing the Mets do this offseason. Cuddyer alone just doesn't make any sense. Get them to overpay.

Exactly. The Cuddyer move is a win now move. They will make more trades/signings this off season so they can compete for the division next year.

Wait for them to overpay just like Jimmy said.

Sorry if this is dumb/been discussed already, but should we worry about trading alexei and viciedo and the effect it'd have on abreu? Just wondering because the whole Cuban thing and him mentioning when he won Roy how having both has really helped him, etc (with him having the opt out etc)

Abreu did address that when they interviewed him when he won ROY. He says they were a crucial part but he said he understands that its a business.

True , I forgot. And how he mentioned that maybe he could end up somewhere else too

Yeah but he did say is that he wants to win with the White Sox.

I wouldn't be too worried about that because Sox still have control of him for 2 more years and 3 more years of arbitration. So 5 total years, which would take him to 33 years old.
