2nd_city_saint787
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 01:06 PM) No, I'd agree that Niese is a 3-4. He's a nice starter and I wouldn't mind the Sox acquiring him in a separate deal, but you can't trade Ramirez straight up for him. Certainly not straight up. I know this is in reply to something that got buried pages ago but I suggested Niese and Lagares+. I'd love Lagares but I'm kinda backing away from him being the 2nd piece now that VMart is off the market. I don't think they can significantly upgrade DH enough to be able to get by with Eaton and Lagares in the OF offensively. Defensively it'd be a lot of fun though. BlackSox13
QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 12:02 PM) Niese has team options in 2017 and 18, so unless he blows up, that's 4 years of control. My mistake and thanks for pointing it out. Makes the idea of Niese easier to swallow but as I said, IMO, Danks would have to be traded first and that's a whole other discussion. If the Sox are unable to grab Wheeler or Snydergaard ( not counting on it), then I would focus on Montero and minor leaguer for Alexei. If the Mets offered Niese and Lagares for Alexei Ramirez, you turn it into the Commissioner's office and ask questions later. The guy, hitting at a replacement level value, is already a 2 WAR player who's under team control for 4 more years. If/when he hits (because he still does), he adds even more value. Hell, with Eaton and Lagares in the outfield, you damn near only need 2 outfielders with all that speed and range. Move Avisail to rover. witesoxfan
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 12:24 PM) Why does everyone think A.) the Mets don't value Lagares and B.) they would want to create another hole by trading him? I have no idea, I was just commenting on the idea if he were included. I think it'd be safe to say he's one of the top 100 players in the game today and he may be one of the top 40-50 most valuable players. If he can remain a league average bat or develop to be a little above average, he's a building block type of player.

I think I'm the only one that suggested it and it was simply a thought were they not to give up Syndergaard/Wheeler. I even asked in my Op if Niese/Lagares was even less of an offer than Sy or Wheeler straight up. I admittedly don't know how to value guys who most of their value comes from D. At least I didn't call him a back end of the roster player. Edited November 13, 2014 by scs787

But back to Alexei, I really don't think we trade him unless Wheeler or Syndegaard is coming back in the trade. Unless Montero and a couple more interesting pieces are involved. Alexei is a key part of the Sox success and has been a mainstay at SS for sometime now, the young players will need to look to him for leadership and guidance other than Sale and Abreu. Lillian
QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 01:13 PM) Top 5 blockbuster trade ideas 4. Alexei Ramirez to the Yankees, Shane Greene to the White Sox http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/10123...o?tcid=tw_share Take a look at his Minor League Stats. He consistently gave up a lot of hits. I'm not impressed. Doesn't look like he'd be much better than Noesi. His limited time as a rookie, last year, was ok, but based on those Minor League stats, I wouldn't have great expectations. witesoxfan
He's a ground ball pitcher, his velocity numbers look good, and his peripherals are really nice. I have no idea how or why everything clicked at the MLB level in his 15 games and 14 starts, but it's a bit fishy. He looks like a nice piece but I'd want a diversified return and he alone would not get Alexei.
BlackSox13
I watched video of Greene last night on mlb.com and noticed he does miss location a bit more than a starter should. Kid has a nice two-seam he throws 93/94 with downward movement, a nice little slider that fooled batters and thought I had seen a few cutters as well. I would gladly take Greene but the Yanks should send another player with him in a trade for Alexei. Any chance the Sox could get the Yanks to bite on John Danks. Boopa1219
QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 10:01 AM) most definitely. but I think the sox need that starting pitcher in the beginning of the season. I think that 2015, like the second half of 2013 and the entirety of 2014 is all about collecting assets, and that 2016 is going to be the year where the team starts competing again. I think that the Sox should be around .500 next year, and that they should be trying to acquire as much talent as possible because there are still some holes on the team and the Royals and the Tigers arent going anywhere. If the Sox have to endure a slow first few months of the season because Syndergaard needed time in the minors, then I am all for it because the team is going to be better in the long run. I do think the sox will make a push to acquire the necessary players to make a run at the playoff. whomever the sox get via trade, if they do trade, we will know then what that players profile is. until them I will continue to bite my nails and pray to the baseball gods for some great additions to the club. BlackSox13
QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 09:25 PM) I'd much rather have Niese over Greene. Niese is just 2 years older. Niese is two years older, much more expensive, left handed, pitched in the NL and also pitched in a pitchers park while Greene put up nice numbers pitching in the AL, in the most HR friendly park in all of baseball as well as in a very competitive ALE division. Just my opinion but I take Greene hands down over Niese, no contest.
