2nd_city_saint787
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 06:29 PM) You're saying only 22 pitchers have posted more than 9.5 WAR over the past three seasons? Yup. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...0&sort=19,d
BlackSox13
Just to offer a different perspective. Any Shark fans out there consider maybe Oakland wants to keep Shark? After all, they are Losing Lester and Hammel to FA so trading Shark doesn't make much sense from their perspective and could very well force a team to over pay in an effort to acquire him. After all, I'm sure Oakland wants to contend in 2015 as well. Just a thought...

I think the rumors are probably stemming from the fact that Oakland is a small market team.
Balta1701
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 10:03 PM) Well it's definitely not Beane's MO to hand out 100 million dollar contracts... He doesn't have to in order to keep Samardzija for 2015. He could then deal him at the deadline if out of the race or hold onto him, shoot for one more playoff run, and then still pick a draft pick up. Lol, he doesn't have to. Oakland already has one opening in the starting rotation, Beane is not dumb enough to create a second. I don't think Beane traded Addison Russell for Shark only to turn around six months later and trade Shark for possibly less. Beane is much smarter than that. Just because a few Sox fans want the Sox to trade for Shark doesn't mean Beane wants to trade him. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 9, 2014 -> 09:08 PM) He doesn't have to in order to keep Samardzija for 2015. caulfield12
Rollins, Stephen Drew, Punto and Sogard are other possibilities at SS while they wait for one of their top prospects in 2016/17. AJ Griffin (late May/early June), Jarrod Parker (mid-May), Sonny Gray, Drew Pomeranz and Jessie Chavez all look to be part of the rotation...while Beane can sort out the trade value of Kazmir and Samardzija. He's not going to trade either of those last two guys unless he is overwhelmed because those first two are coming off major injuries and the certainty of their return isn't completely clear until mid-season. 1. Samardzija 2. Gray 3. Pomeranz 4. Kazmir 5. Chavez The (healthy) return of Griffin and Parker would give them five front-line pitchers...but they can't afford to trade Samardzija or Kazmir until 1) they make a trade or bring in another free agent pitcher or 2) know the exact prognosis of Griffin/Parker. Eminor3rd
If the A's do trade Samardzija, I imagine they'll be looking to bolster the MLB roster in other areas. Part of the reason Beane paid the price he did was because he retained control over Samardzija in 2015, which is definitely a contention year for Oakland. Also, the Cespedes trade showed us that he isn't afraid to "rob Peter to pay Paul" so to speak.

Also, the Cespedes trade showed us that he isn't afraid to "rob Peter to pay Paul" so to speak. I disagree, 2015 is a rebuilding year. The reason that the 2015 control was important to Beane was to be able to replenish the roster more quickly. They lose Lester and Hammel out of their starting rotation, their 2B, their SS, their LF and their UTL IF and have traded away all of their viable replacements at those positions. Now they are looking to trade Kazmir and Samardzjia to fill in the gaps and remain competitive. With their young pitchers coming back from some major injuries it is tough to see how they will be in contention.

daggins
Probably either pair of Sox. The A's have some outfielders but are always looking for good talent. Meanwhile, they are pretty weak up the middle, one area of depth for our Sox.
