Or enter another argument of people underrating the value of defense for teams. Why is WAR automatically wrong when a player doesn't meet our perceptions? Why can't we just say "Well, maybe we underestimated the value of defense?" It's a legitimate discussion worth having, but to say that Gordon and Heyward shouldn't be ranked highly because much of their value is derived from defense is an incredibly shallow argument that I'm not buying for a second.
