witesoxfan
I like talking about players we talked about as possible Sox targets ending up somewhere else in PHT. What are your thoughts on this move, Soxtalk? Glad (like I am) that the Sox didn't offer that much for him?
Chisoxfn
I am glad we stayed away.
southsider2k5
Yeah, that is a deal I am happy we didn't make.
Harry Chappas
but the cubs are the clear front runner.
Eminor3rd
Welp. Yeah, I mean, as badly as I wanted him, I didn't want him 5yr/$82m bad. Plus draft pick comp. Edited November 17, 2014 by Eminor3rd
Rowand44
Ya very happy we stayed away.
Bob Sacamano
Should be one less suitor for Pablo. Now only if the Red Sox would sign Hanley....
hogan873
A lot of money and a lot of years. I don't think many of us would have been happy if the Sox had signed him to such a deal.
Dunt
I like Martin but that's a lot money. That said, I would love to have him on the Sox and would've have been giving him that type of contract because he is a cornerstone player. Quin
I'm with the consensus. Glad we stayed away. And lol at the Cubs.
Balta1701
So what the **** was the deal with lind? They're trying to save money to spend on overpriced FAs so they're giving away their fairly priced players?
BlackSox13
I glad for the Sox for being smarter than over paying for Russell I'm glad for the Blue Jays getting their man I'm glad the Blue Jays made it more possible for the Sox to sign Melky I'm glad the cubs lost out on another FA opportunity they set their sights on. The streets are flooding from the tears of weeping cub fans. I just want to thank the Blue Jays and Cardinals.
Dick Allen
I am kind of shocked. We were told Joe Maddon would attract free agents.
Buehrle>Wood
I bet Toronto doesn't end up regretting this deal!
GGajewski18
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 17, 2014 -> 12:27 PM) I am kind of shocked. We were told Joe Maddon would attract free agents. LOL at the Cubs. Money talks. They'll probably overpay on Lester now.
bmags
So last I heard Toronto's energy was behind signing Melky. Is this the end of that shot?
TheTruth05
That's a ton of money for a 32 yr old catcher. Wish Cubs woulda been stuck with a contract like that.
dpd9189
Russell Martin is a good player but unless it's Posey or Yadi, I wouldn't go crazy on overpaying a catcher. Wasn't a big fan of the McCann signing last year either, catchers bodies tend to break down quicker as well (see Mauer, Joe). Also it doesn't matter who your coach or GM is, it's ALWAYS all about the money. Anyone who thinks different is a moron.
harfman77
Glad we passed.
Reddy
That'll be a baaaad contract.
BlackSox13
Viciedo for Navarro, done deal. That's a wrap!
Bob Sacamano
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 17, 2014 -> 03:21 PM) Viciedo for Navarro, done deal. That's a wrap! I'd do that deal. Encarnacion can be the primary DH, Smoak can play first and Tank can play left while getting at bats at DH.
TheFutureIsNear
Yeah good luck with that deal Toronto....I'd be pretty pissed if we signed Martin to that deal.
Bigsoxhurt35
I didn't want him nor at that price. But hilarious all we hear about is the Cubs. Then they say they're the clear front runner and boom he's a Blue Jay. Ha
BlackSox13
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 17, 2014 -> 03:31 PM) I'd do that deal. Encarnacion can be the primary DH, Smoak can play first and Tank can play left while getting at bats at DH. It does make a bit of sense. Then the Sox go and sign Melky and things suddenly look a little better.
