max power
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 02:46 PM) MAX, did you stop rooting for the Sox when they signed Will Cordero? If a guy cheating makes you sick to your stomach, I don't want to know what watching a wife beater would do to you. I had no awareness of his personal life. I just watched games. I can't say he was an important player to me at the time because I don't even recall him playing for the sox.
SoCalSox
QUOTE (MAX @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 12:50 PM) Its not by money but by motivation. Some systems of rules, like the law, and our justice system, take motivation for the rules being broken into account. They do this because the world is not black and white. I agree with this philosophy. Life is very complex. Its why hate crimes are considered worse than the same crimes committed intra-racialy. I guess my whole thing is, he's not hurting anyone by being a former cheater in a game. He's not a racist or a terrorist, he's a baseball player that took something to play better. That's just my take, though.
soxfan49
Someone earlier in this thread said this signing makes the Sox lineup average, but I totally disagree. If Eaton can stay healthy and Garcia progresses, they have the potential to be very good.
Balta1701
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 04:01 PM) Someone earlier in this thread said this signing makes the Sox lineup average, but I totally disagree. If Eaton can stay healthy and Garcia progresses, they have the potential to be very good. This ought to make the white sox move into the "well above average" range. Add in a solid bench, have guys mostly stay healthy & have Garcia develop some & there's a shot at being the top offense in the league. southsider2k5
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 12:44 PM) Yeah, but then the "WTF was his 2013 season" worry hits, where he put up a .682 OPS right after the suspension and didn't last a full season. With how his career has gone, I could easily convince myself that was the year he was clean & that last year he went back on something to try to get another contract. But anyway, still a move they had to make. Clearly explained injury.

BaconOnAStick
I did not know about the spinal tumors (SPINAL TUMORS) until today. My initial apprehension about the guy was that 2014 was classic playing up for a contract year, I'm less worried about that now.
Dick Allen
White Sox #2 hitters had a .279 OBP in 2014. Abreu still drove in 100.
shysocks
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) White Sox #2 hitters had a .279 OBP in 2014. Abreu still drove in 100. That's one reason this is so huge. We HAD to have a 2 hitter. Those worried about rooting for a cheater might as well quit watching sports. You've been supporing cheaters for years whether you want to admit it or not. Edited December 14, 2014 by shysocks
bmags
I said its at least average in AL. There's still a lot of room for error on this lineup. Gillespie 2 years in is still hard to project. 2b will be below average. Flowers very well could end up like June Flowers year round. And possible regressions from Ramirez/LaRoche/Cabrera all at or over 30. Beyond them we have no one exciting ready to come up. So, we need a lot to break right. But hell, we ought to be due for some luck.
Whisox05
melky is said to have had a 4-year offer. but he decided he preferred #chisox. 4-yr team is unknown. https://twitter.com/JonHeymanCBS/status/544253839902535680
hogan873
I love the signing. Melky will be a huge upgrade in LF. The hate and distaste for the signing because he was caught juicing baffles me unless those expressing the hate can say the same about all of the others who have been caught. Furthermore, if anyone thinks they're weren't juicers on the 2005 World Series championship team, they are deluding themselves.
SoCalSox
"Did offseason moves convince Melky to join White Sox? @JonHeymanCBS says Melky had a 4-yr offer but took Sox's 3-yr pact instead." via Doug Padilla. I love hearing this.

SoCalSox
I really get the feeling Jason Castro will be a member of the Sox very soon. I think the Sox are done "spending" but I don't think they are done making moves.

MDWhiteSoxFan
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 07:20 PM) Any idea what it takes to get him? I know very little about the Astros' needs. Just looked at Bleacher Report shopping list for the Astros they had stopgap shortstop, 3rd baseman, and relievers. Maybe we can package Davidson, Flowers, and some pen arm. I really have no clue, I don't think I want to trade Davidson yet, he has legit potential if he can get a better approach at the plate (if I've read correctly). Y2Jimmy0
Man the last few pages of this thread have been terrible. Go cry somewhere else. The White Sox upgraded in a big way. I'm going to choose to be excited about that.

The White Sox upgraded in a big way. I'm going to choose to be excited about that. It happens with EVERY signing or trade. Go look back at the Abreu thread and there's complaints there about the money / his "ability to hit the inside fastball"... Meh... If they signed Scherzer - there would be complaints.
